Peavey Classic 30 footswitch question

My buddy has a Peavey Classic 30 and is looking to get a 2 button footswitch for it. The peavey footswitch looks pretty cheap and has no LEDs, so he is considering other options.

If he were to get a 2 button VOX footswitch with LEDs for example, would the LEDs work when the switch is engaged? My thought is no, but I haven't tried a footswitch with LEDs into an amp whose stock footswitch does not have LEDs.

FWIW, i've never replaced my peavey 2 button footswitch on my classic 30 and I just got back from Iraq with it. It's filled with dust but it works great.
