Ran through the Crunch and Lead Channels of the Peavey Invective last night.

I have to say, I had high hopes for this amp, being a massive 5150 fan. I was let down by it in this video.

Now, I'm almost convinced something is wrong with kine after talking to a few owners and even one of the designers of the amp. I'm going to check power tube bias, make sure preamps are good, connect the footswitch to ensure the Master Boost is dimed/engaged at a high level, and see if that makes a positive difference.

I WILL be revisiting it in the near future, seeing if there is anything I can do to enhance the tone to my liking, and comparing it against a 5150 Sig, 6505+, and EVH 5150III 50 Stealth!

Master Boost dimed?!
I like the Master on for solo shred stuff, but for raw chunkage I don't like it on at all. I'll have to try it again

Well apparently it reverts back to your last footswitch setting. I've never plugged in the footswitch, so I have no idea what it's actually registering at. Haha

Yeah the tone on this was meh (the amp at fault not you). Looking forward to hearing what you think after trying a few things. I remember there was a bunch of hype about this and then I feel like it fizzled out.

Yeas, that is a weird thing, without the footswitch connected I have no idea if the Master is on or where is without guessing by the tone I hear. Plug that thing in and turn the Master off for that cool chunk riffage you were playing. It still might not give you what you want, but I guarantee you'll like it a lot more

Well fellas. I did a number of things to try and right the ship last night.

First, I checked all the preamp tubes. someone did JJ across the board, which is never a great choice in any 5150 style amplifiers, IMO. It just makes them sound dark, dull and a little too gainy in my experience. Went Tung Sol V1, Ruby HG+ V2 and TAD-Sovtek WA in V3. This seemed to open the amp a tad, less digital feeling grain in the highs, but not a ton of difference.

Next up, reduced the bias with the trim pot by a good bit. I don't have the tools to bias the amp but I can tell you the amp was radiating heat at the bias it was set at when I got it, so I dialed it down some and that naturally reduced some of the thickness I was dealing with. I tend to like my 5150 amps on the colder side, the bias mod has never been an improvement to my ears on them.

Finally, and most importantly. I plugged in the footswitch and kicked on the master boost. Bingo. That was certainly the issue. Although I could only play at low volumes, it was a pretty night and day difference. The amp immediately got tight and brighter. I made sure I had it set to 10 and then removed the footswitch to ensure it would stay, and it did.

SO, I'm going to revisit the amp, maybe tomorrow? I already have my next 3 demos recorded with the Soldano Avenger on tap for today. So I'll do a Revisit video with everything now working properly and share my thoughts. I was convinced somethign wasn't right, and people told me the same, so I appreciate all who chimed in and helped me out.
