Video clips sound good. Anyone have one? how is it?

I think for the money you could do so much better! I dont want to put the amp down because I'm sure there are guys on the forum that have one but I returned the one I bought after 3 days of trying to get good tones out of it.

For me it's one of those amps that sounds good at home, but gets lost when I tried it with a band.

I absolutely love that amp. I am planning on buying another one in the near future. Its a bit different sounding and has a slight metallic kind of thing going on, but I really dig it.

Agreed for new....but dude...i saw a great shaped used one a few months ago on craigslist for $500. For that money, it is incredible!

I've been able to carve out a great sound from my JSX. Thick, bright and tight.
I played one recently in a store, with a different guitar, pickup, cab and speakers, and it sounded like crap.

Everybody needs to consider that when testing amps.

I saw a used one for $750. Just wondering if it was worth checking out.

I had one and really dug it. Sounded great at low volumes too.

I had one for a while. Pretty cool amp with some good tones in it, I just couldnt get along with a certain cocked wah mid thing going on with it. Saturated and compressed and pretty fun to play though. Cleans were kinda sterile but better than what I'm used to now days and the red channel was too much over the top for me...the amber channel was where it was at

Oh yeah...I hated it with el34's. 6L6's were a huge improvement imo

I had one for about a year. Gigged with it, recorded with it and played it at home. Not a bad amp but there are better out there. If you dig it, go for it!

The amber channel is the only decent channel.

the amp is too compressed.

the noise gate chokes your tone by its afterthought design.

the active EQ changes the volume level when adjusted.

clean channel is sterile but is very clean.

the send return levels on the fx loop mess with the tone.

sounds buzzy at high volumes, better with 6l6.

I hate this amp.

JSX models are hit and miss, ive only played one that i thought sounded great and that was a long time ago, and i also thought it only sounded good wide open/ on 10 on the master, and the volume for each channel adjusted. definately not at home practice friendly or even gig worthy for some people.

i played a recent one/new one in a store and thought it sounded terrible. buzzy, no dynamics, overly compressed to the point you couldnt control it properly with playing or muting techniques. the term rage in a cage reminds me of that amplifier.

the resonance/presence controls are alot different than the way 5150's respond, i cant say which i liked better but it was different.

the cocked wah thing going on is true, its how the lead channel is designed.

the clean channel reminds me of a hot tamali, the amplifier isnt as responsive to pick attack and cleaning up/dirtying up.

IMHO i think a 5150 III used in this price category stomps ass all over a JSX.

I had one and gigged out with it for a while with great results and always got tons of compliments on my tone. I think it sounds better with 6L6s as well. It's not the greatest amp out there but it can get some versatile tones that served me well. For the money I think it's a pretty good bargain if you like the voicing of the amp.

That is exactly the opposite of my experience. I use the JSX as my gigging amp and get a great tone that cuts thru with my band. I use EL-34s right now but down the road I would like to throw some KT-77s in there.

I think the JSX gets a bad rap sometimes. If you use too much gain, the wrong pickups, EQ, etc., the amp is going to sound buzzy. People don't use the low input enough. I have started using the low input on the amber channel and get a great tone.

This hit on most of my complaints, add the cocked wah tone and the amp is mediocre at best. Use the low gain input, but even then, you'll have difficulty getting the amber channel to clean up nicely with your volume knob for a nice low to mid gain tone. The amp is incapable of a good slightly overdriven blues tone. If it had actually had the Peavey Classic 50 tone and feel in the amber channel, it might have been a great amp. As it is, it's a more polite XXX.

Save your money and get something better in the $700 price range.

With the right tubes, pickups, speakers and settings, this amps excels.
Otherwise it can sink real fast. I love mine and have grown to know this amp very well.
