Peavey JSX tubes and/or mods

So here's the deal, I've been trying to sell my JSX locally for a little while now. The only bites I've had are either spam or some kid that wants to trade me several different crappy solid state practice amps. So now I figure that if I can't sell it I might as well spruce it up.

First things first is that I know the amp needs new tubes. I bought it brand new when they came out in 2004, sold it to an old bandmate, then got it back a little over a year ago. I never retubed and I seriously doubt he did either. With that in mind, what tubes are recommended for this guy and what will those particular tubes do?

Modding it is something else I'm interested in doing. The gain channels have that weird mid boost to them that sounds like a wah pedal is engaged that I really don't like. You other JSXers know what I'm talking about, right? Anywho, how do I get rid of that? Are there any other mods that would be cool to do? And yes, I am competent with soldering iron and schematic reading and know very well the dangers of opening an amp up.

Try an EQ. Plenty of used ones on fleabay.
