Peavey PENTA??? yes no???

for metal??? my friend has a penta, i am going to hear it very soon (within 24 hrs) . it was supposedly jerry p's personal penta. my friend said he verified this with jerry. i am going to shoot him a PM about it also.
anygay, it has "standard penta mod" . JJ tubes all around. power soak mod. and an added 12ax7. and i am unsure about anything else.

anyone have any penta thoughts??

basically i was gonna go 6505 , but if this thing can get that heavy in its current state i may get it. i can do a trade with him and it will cost me no cash out of pocket.
keep in mind it will be used live and at a fairly loud rehearsal level. so i am not interested in low volume stats. :wink:

I know there are some Penta detractors around, btu I think it is a damn good amp. After Jerry modded mine, the bull and cactus channels were awsome for pretty much any kind of metal you could want.

These amps are not fizzy or fuzzy, just punch you in the gut high gainers...with very ice plexi tones and clean channel to boot!

I'd like to try one of these, they look pretty cool. My local (shitty as HELL) music store has a Winsor right now, and I wouldn't mind cranking it for a while, just to put it though the paces and see what it can do.

Let me know if you need it tweaked at all. That amp is a little different than the mod I did on Tony's Penta. I miss that amp.

I thought the mudflap girl channel (the high gain one) sucked. The other channels were pretty nice, but it's too dear for what it is in the UK. In my opinion. Probably better value in the USA, though.

Let me know if you need it tweaked at all. That amp is a little different than the mod I did on Tony's Penta. I miss that amp.

jerry this thing fucking kills!! the girly channel is amazing. tight and punchy as fuck. clarity for miles, and just enough saturation. that channel is the only reason why i took the head home. and to top it off i am running it through a HI-WATT cab (the real deal, 70's closed back) with an x-pattern of gt75's and eminence customs out of a diezel cab. omfg !!!
my buddy got it off of a guy in oswego. jj tubes, power soak, you remember. and a custom bent polished stainless steel grille face on the head with the little round holes so you can see right through it. i will post a pic as soon as i can its bad ass
