peavey ultra 60 head or triumph 60 head

I can get the triumph 60 for 220 plus shipping, and the ultra 60 for 300 plus shipping...which would you do?

Im looking for something that can do metal without a boost that I can leave at the practice space and take out for gigs. Im leaning toward the triumph right now, because of the price...
 
Maybe I should just say fuck it and carry the 6505 back and forth and save the cash...
 
The Triumph has more flexibility over the feel because the tone stack is pre-gain.
The Ultra has more versatility of tone because the tone stack is post.

Personally, I'd get the Triumph and a rack EQ and have the best of both worlds.
 
they're different amps

the ultra is similar to the rockmaster preamp and XXX, with active tonestack

the triumph is like a mix of the peavey classic and a mesa mark II/III, with fender style tonestack (the eq works over the clean signal instead of after distortion)

Hey. Great to see you are over here. Probably wont be getting anything extra on top of it, just the head, if I decide to do it. The triumph is a pretty good amount cheaper, so Im leaning towards that right now, but Im also considering just taking the 6505 out too. I just dont want to deal with taking that thing back and forth all the time...idk.

I dont really understand how the tonestack thing affects tone and feel, I guess. It seems like the ultra is more what I want, but idk.
 
i cannot vote for some reason, but the ultra is way more versatile and easy to use. but if youre only after one specific tone, the triumph may do it for you.

Thats good to know. Do you think you can get a similar tone from each? Im probably only gonna be using 1 main distortion tone and a clean tone, and use my volume knob to get some lighter gain tones if necessary...which probably wont be happening frequently...

If the triumph can easily do metal, then Ill probably go with that.
 
Ive never played a triumph, but ive heard the gain is similiar. i can vouch for the ultra 60 though, its a great amp. i really got some great tones out of it, good cleans, decent reverb, decent bluesy stuff, all the way to stupid-heavy-metal.

Damn. Well, I think the ultra would be more my thing, but I really dont know. Everything I have heard from the triumph has sounded awesome too...

If the ultra is 300, how low do you think they will go? Its not through a forumite, otherwise I would feel bad lol...

Plus getting the triumph to cut with a band is effortless. I haven't owned an Ultra 60, but I can tell you I didn't like the way my XXX sat in the mix.
If you get the triumph, though, an eq in the loop makes ALL the difference.

the XXX is lolz in comparison to the ultra series. I dont know what the hell happened to those amps. I would just suggest, look dude ive got like 275 bucks, if youll take it for that ill front the cash right now.

Interesting. Well, I dont have an eq, and I dont really want to get one lol. The other guitarist plays through a JSX, if that helps at all. I just want something stock that I can plug into and go. Oh, and a preamp out would be helpful for practicing...I know the triumph has one...

Hell keep your eyes pealed for an Ultra Plus, actually there was one in the classifieds here, KILLER amps!!!
 
the ultra plus is pretty sick. one of them sold for 300 shipped over at HC classifieds, i was 15 minutes too late on it. damn commies.
