Is there a pedal that can get me a nice sweet, smooth lead tone?
I'm trying out a Koch Twintone right now and the OD on it works great for rhythm, but I want a smoother lead tone.

Is there a pedal that can do this real well?
My OCD is a little to thin sounding for when I use it on that channel (sounds great with the clean channel though). I want it to sound big and fat, but still saturated enough that I don't have to fight it through a solo

Thanks

I don't know exactly what it is you are after, but have you tried a fuzz?

xotic BB preamp - treble down bass up. Use it with my AC30 with a light crunch and kick that in for leads. A fuzz face as suggested above could be good too. I have a crowther hotcake that use also works great with the vox don't know about other amps.

I thought of that...but the drive channel on the Koch is actually on the verge of fuzz by itself, so I think I want something that just kinda takes the OD from the amp and makes it "nicer".

I don't need a pedal with a bunch of gain, just something that rounds out an already overdriven tone.

Awesome...thanks Erik

Don't know how well this will go down here, but my Keeley Compressor into the OD channel on my Renegade does the job for me! I spent a long time trying to find a real smooth over drive.. I'd recommend trying that if you haven't already.

Failing that, try a Rivera Shaman Dual.. quite pricey but it's basically two pedals in one with the Austin and LA switch.. For Austin think SRV and LA is just pure creamy Lukather type od. Beautiful pedal!

Thanks man...I actually did think about using a comp.

My vote goes for the BB preamp as well since you have treble and bass controls on it.

Butler Tube Driver.
From experience, I've had mine 25 yrs now.
has that effect on every amp ive run it thru. No boost! Does not increase level, just makes everything smooth, and sing. Think Eric Johnson...

If I'm thinking the same thing you're wanting when you say "smooth", this might be what you're after.

Another vote for the BB. I have the Andy Timmons version of the BB, and through my Metro it just flat out nails the Bonamassa tone. Love that pedal. I also own one of the newer Butler Tubedrivers (with the bias mod) another great pedal... just not as smooth, and yet thick and defined.. but, another frally good option.

Everybody likes the BB!! Definitely have to check that one out...can someone tell me the tonal differences between it and a v.4 OCD?? I just feel like they would be kinda similar, and my OCD just isn't cutting it with this amp.

I have always liked the idea of getting a Tube Driver, but I hear they don't play well with every amp. I guess I might just have to try one out if I can find one.

Thanks everyone!
Keep em' coming

I used to get that kind of sound out of my Full Drive II. Not a ton of gain, but played rally well with an OD channel. Especially with the vintage mids setting.

Sounds great Reza! I'd love to try this...I just wonder how a fuzz would react with the Koch's gain channel, its fairly high gain already. Have you ever played one of the Koch's?

It's either going to be BBPre, or a fuzz. I have both - the Xotic and the EHX BMPi/TW. Surprisingly, the BigMuffPi does a bash up job of really fattening up a lead. BB takes a bit of working with to get where you wanna go, but seriously, sometimes fuzzes are overlooked because everyone thinks it's just a fuzz.

Just sayin,
Mo

Thanks for the wise words Mo!
I'll definitely keep that in mind

Well, my video is thru a Diezel Hagen, does the Koch have more gain than a Hagen?

No clue, never played a Hagen, but I'm sure on channel two of the Hagen, they are somewhat similar.
Koch goes from nice Marshally grind to a Mesa-ish type tone with the spin of the gain knob...so I'm sure I could get a tone that would sound similar to what you've got in that video.
