New video with Pete showing us the SL68, eventually using his vintage SD pickup and going BROWN! This helped me ring in the new year last night, blasting it on my computer!

Just skip to 11:40 for the Van Halen goodies! And notice how Pete panned all vintage VH stuff to the left, as it should be!

What Pete doesn't mention is how freaking LOUD that amp must be on 6!? Either way, it suhr sounds awesome, even though Pete makes anything sound awesome. Fun to listen to, informative, good job Pete. The big question: Were you using the JBL speaker??

Happy New Year!

Pete was using an attenuator and a Scumback M75 65w he got three years ago in the video.

Interesting Jim, do you know which attenuator? He didn't mention it in the video.

The M75 sounds great though!

Yeah, he uses a Faustine Phantom set at -8 or -10, Pete couldn't remember. You can't run that 100w head (probably putting out closer to 180-200w cranked to 10 during the "brown" section) into a 65w M75 without attenuating it.

Faustine is now out of business, but I'd have to figure using the Alex Attenuator (what I use in the demo room) will do just as good a job since it had the same tonal transparency as the Faustine. I have heard both side by side two years ago, so I'm not blowing smoke.

And no, I'm not affiliated or get kickbacks from Alex for attenuator sales. I think he makes a great attenuator with less features than the Phantom, but it has the same basic features and tonal output, plus a decent 4 way treble mod switch in the lowest attenuation mode that you can adjust for your tastes with P90's, Strat/Tele single coils, and humbuckers. That way you can dial it in as you see fit for your pickups.

Pete's M75 is an older model he's played the snot out of. He actually had some trouble with doing the recordings for a minute and had me send over a new one in case it had gone south, but I guess he figured it out and got it dialed in.

I'm going to have him bring it back over with him when he comes over next so I can test it to see if it's ok.

Past that...pretty simple...great amp, EQ settings, cab, speaker, guitar, get your fingers moving right, and hit the record button.

Sounds easy, don't it? ;)

Ya, I noticed Pete doesn't want to mention Faustine...I don't blame him.

i have to say, that moment at 11:45 made me smile as i knew Pete would not disappoint. This amp is just killer!!!!!
