In this video, James Hetfield plays a Diezel Vh4 in combination with a Mesa/Boogie 4x12 Stilleto cab (Rectifier Traditional).
How can i get this sound out of my Vh4 (settings)? Which tubes are best for this kind of smooth fat guitar sound?

Thank you

FYI...Hetfield's actual VH4 settings. But you should just twist knobs until you find your tone (use your ears...Not your eyes)

james' vh4 settings
Only ch3 is being used:

Curious where you got these settings from however.

It's gonna be mighty hard to get his live sound out of the VH4. Because he mixes it with a "heavily customized" Mesa Triaxis.

No, i dont want his live sound. I need some tips for the Rehearsal Sound. Tubes, settings....
Please listen to the Video on 0:40!! Sorry for my bad english

BTW, are the VH4 he uses stock or customized ?

And while we're talking about teh Jaymz, we've seen he tried the Hagen, maybe on of our favorites Peters car tell us if he liked, and chosed, it ? :D

Yeah we need Peter himself!!! Only he know the truth.

This
+ you have to turn the suck knob up to 11. :D

Peter, which Power Tubes would you recomment for this sound in the video? Thanks

Lord knows I'm on of the biggest James Hetfield fans there is, but please stop trying to make yourself sound like him.

Don't do it because it isn't original, do it because:
You won't ever reach the same sound. Not even with the same gear he has.
Even if you have the same power tubes, they might be biased different from yours which will affect sound
Even if you have the same bias, he might have a different cabinet than you
Even if you have the same cabinet, his speakers may be more or less worn out than yours
Even if you have the same speakers, his string attack may be different.

I can go on and on.

Just enjoy your vh4. Pick a sound that sounds good to you with the tubes you have. Spare yourself the time, effort, and money of chasing something that can't be done. And even if it can be done, would be utterly pointless.

I say: more playing, less turning knobs!

one thing you can't copy... style. human beings are unique.

by the way: you hear 5-10 different sounds from 00:40-00:43 since the camera mic moves and phases and records these different sounds.

THANK YOU MAN. +1,000,000.

I respect the fact that people want to guide themselves by someone else's tone, that's fine by me, but seriously going the extra mile and copy cat the tone/rig/guitars/pickups/etc etc etc seems incredible to me.

The biggest musicians in the world have one thing in common..... ORIGINALITY. They might have started trying to emulate their idols to some extent but they quickly found their own signature.

Agreed! The mic on the camera and its location has a huge impact on what is heard in the video.

The only way to judge what the rehearsal sound is, is to actually be in the room. Otherwise the mic used has a big impact.

You'll be surprised how many different sounds you can get by using different mics and at different locations. It will show that your amp has many more personalities than it might seem.

My money says that James playing his guitar through your VH4 and cab would sound almost the same as him using his own VH4 and cab. I think the mic is the main difference here since you have the same type of amp.
