I think I am going to fold and get a peters. The gas has been too great. Now just to get 2500

Anyways, thoughts? Fuel the gas!

Get in line brother  He seems to be getting steady orders in ( James Peters that is). Very cool guy to talk with about his amps or amps in general. I placed my order on tha Hydra. Wish I could comment more on the tone, make that decision when it arrives. Have not heard any bad comments on them. I say go for it! :2thumbsup:

I also have a Hydra on order with the aggression mod. My band used a Hydra on our upcoming EP alongside a H&K switchblade, clips will be posted soon so keep searching "peters" in the next week or so and you will see my thread hopefully(waiting for the EP to be mixed and mastered).

I have heard NOTHING but good things from owners of his amps, seriously, not one complaint, and recently it seems people are keeping James very busy. His customer support is top notch, he is very informative and wont try and sell you on his gear. Get him to give you a call, he always has lots of information to share with people looking for a certain sound, just make sure you have nothing planned for the next 3 hours or you may be running late.

I see you have a Splawn and a Peavey head there.. I think that should add up to 2500 ;) and you probably wont regret it once it arrives, the amps cover alot of ground really well. The clean channel is the best I have ever heard, I can compare to a Laney vh100r, H&K Triamp mkII, Engl Savage, H&K Switchblade, Mesa Roadster. It can stay clean or you can turn up the gain and get a good grit to it. I don't want to say to much about the tone though as I have only spent a couple hours with the amp max.

I always hear good things about peter amps and he seems like a good dude, kinda nice to hear another named mentioned around here instead of the usual cameron and fortin.

I think I need to sell my mark iii to fund this

good choice!

what model of Peters are you thinking right now?

I'm thinking the chimera or hydra... I am going to talk to james peters on Monday.

I really dug the Peters Gryphon I had. Should have held on to it.

I love the hell out of both of mine. I'm to the point where I have a really hard time enjoying another amp when I play in a store. This does help when it comes to avoiding GAS, but I also need to realize that I will probably end up with a Gryphon one day.

Please explain the difference between Chimaira and Hydra? and Gyphron??

+1

I've traded emails with him a few times and he seems like a real good dude. Most builders give you 2 sentence responses and don't answer all of your questions but James is great. I'd love to buy one of his amps someday. The only thing that stops me is the lack of review/clips/vids (although there seem to be more lately). Everything I've heard sounds pretty cool though.

I've been having a hard time making clips I can be proud of enough to do the amps justice and want to post to really showcase the essence of these bad boys.

The Hydra has more saturation and delivers a nice and fat distortion and capable of getting more sag. The Chimera is really razor tight and is more unforgiving with a great tight, grinding style of voice that cuts much more than the Hydra. The hydra is massive, but the Chimera is a fucking razor blade. When I run these in Stereo, I can set them both up independently to get the same volume, then when run together, the Chimera really pulls into the forefront.

I love my Chimera for really singing leads and the Hydra has almost a chorus effect to the leads that makes it a little smoother.

I will try and make some clips next week. The ones I made this week sounded a little weak because the SM57 didn't really want to pick up the bass as much as was present in the room and I'm sure that's partially due to my interface. I'm a massive noob in the area of recording, so I want to get it right. They would probably sound great in a mix with a bass player, but I'm frustrated that I can't get the sound I hear in the room. Ribbon mic to come next week.

I'm really curious as to the difference between the stock and aggression modded Hydras. The Hydra gets aggressive, though not in the same way as the Chimera. Together, they are harmonious.

I really suck at describing tone. Too bad that I also suck at making representative clips. I guess you'll just have to visit.

If you ever spoke with him. Your GAS would be insurmountable. If you have a few hours, you should call.
