I am so pleased that Marzi Montazeri, famed guitar virtuoso of Houston, TX, is finally getting the break and respect he deserves. He is currently the lead guitarist for Phil Anselmo's upcoming solo project. I know some of Marzi's fans are here on Rig-Talk and will be likewise thrilled.

Marzi is one of my best friends, so I have to remain somewhat tight-lipped about it, but this is going to blow everyone away and give Pantera fans what they've been longing for for a LONG time. It is heavy, but it is very musical. Marzi was a long time friend of Dimebag and he would pull him up on stage to play at every show he was at.

Marzi and Phil used some of my gear to record, though I probably can't say what gear it was just yet ;) It is all very exciting, nonetheless!

That's awesome,i hope it's heavy.Great gig to score.
Phil is a cool guy,he comes to Kronk here in Detroit to watch my son box,5 times so far
and each time he gives my boy pointers.

Thats good for buddy, Phil's a king doucher though.

That's a very easy thing to assess based on stuff he's done and said (for the most part, as presented by the media) in the past 20 years, but it's not quite insightful to say those things if one doesn't know anything about what he's done in the past couple of years or what he's like today.

Unfortunately, people in show business get life sentences for their mistakes.

We look to these people for good music. If you look to them for your philosophies in life than you have a bigger problem then they do (using the rhetorical and proverbial "you" here).

lookin fwd to hear it.glad to hear Phil's got some new tunes coming down the pike..

Phil's a great singer, and he's alright in my book. He may have said things/behaved in a certain fashion at times, but I know him to be a down to earth very sincere dude, but very intense.
I look forward to hearing this stuff. Marzi must rip.

it's about time!
this will be special [i hope]

the drummer for the anselmo project is my boy joey from warbeast. joey's gonna be one busy bastard.

Great news, best of luck with it for all of them.

Ps.
 Is Phil back on using?

Nope. He's always talked like that. He's also on heavy medication for his very serious back injuries. Mixing illegal drugs with that would literally kill him.

I'm hoping whatever meds Phil are on will allow him to perform up to what he's capable of. I'm a huge Pantera fan but was not impressed by Down or Super Joint, so hopefully this project will be better. Glad to hear a fellow Houstonian is catching a break!

I saw him on That Metal Show, and he seemed a little cooler than in the past but seems like he would be next to impossible to work with. Very intense and all over the place. Good luck to your friend.

phil was like that when he first joined pantera, so i am guessing he has always been like that. when they were working on "power metal" he was almost kinda like a manic depressive. he would be jumping on the couch going ape, turning us on to demos we hadn't heard, then suddenly turn around and get morose about something weird. of course we were all doing all sorts of chemicals back then so who am i to say what was weird....

from everything i have heard from those who are working with him now, who knew him from back then, he is still an intense dude. but he is more mellowed out from years of abuse to himself. he never seemed like a happy guy in the first place, more manic than happy.
