Scored me a '72 Superlead on the cheap, and the previous owner thought a big ass fan would be a good idea.

Anyway, I fixed all that shit and wrapped it in purple (continuing my "problem" with colored Marshalls). :D

Now it is off to Dave Friedman to have it put back to stock.

You sir deserve an award, too many of these things are getting turned into wanna be boogies.

whats with the black stain on the bottom of the cabinet? looks like something exploded?!

i love the cheap routing done to accommodate the toggle switch on the back, with the wood still attached on one side, and the a-symetrical gaping hole in the side of it, dont even get me started on the IEC class I failure on the mains plug.

that poor marshall

your tolex jobs always turn out great. im surprised you dont have a side business with that kind of worksmanship/talent man.

Yes, this thing was a mess inside and out, but all the important stuff is still there. I have always dreamed of a "magic Marshall", so hopefully Dave can make it sing.

The black stuff is I assume over spray from the factory painting the inside black. I patched the side where you could not tell from the inside, and the tolex covers the outside of course. I managed to reuse everything but the tolex, so it is mostly original.

I am just about ready to wrap the (soon to be) matching '72 cab I scored to go with it. I think this is going to be my last redo as I have more than enough, and these things are some work.

So...

Orange - Red And Purple!

Talk About Ear Canday

Nice!

I think the Axe FX II has a fan sim.....

Never did I know that there was a need for a fan in a Marshall head until looking around to find an older head. You see plenty of them on ebay with fans. I think if after 40 years of making 100 watt amps, if Jim Marshall thought that an amp needed a fan, he would have put one in there.

Gonna leave that IEC power mod in there? :D

There is alittle bit of merit to the fans. Using my Marshalls for many years of 4 hour gigs, that last hour was brutal. Once the transformers get hot, the amp goes to mush. Stage lights sure didnt help much either. I never could bring myself to mount a fan, but sometimes having one blow across it would help.

There is a Marshall MG 100 watt amp with a pc style fan in it.

Yeah, I've used a small fan behind the amps when playing outdoors. I don't think I could bring myself to cut a hole in the side of a shell though and mount an exhaust fan

The fan hole in the side, the AC plug hole in the chassis, and the butchered switch on the back. Yes, a top notch install all the way.

I have a set of correct faceplates that will be going on to cover the carnage.

I remember buying an old plexi many years ago that had a fan in the side....first one I'd seen. Plugging it in sounded like a plane readying for takeoff! Then I kept getting shocked with it, so back it went. :)

Nice job on the tolex!

Great job on the recover. Of the guys I knew who were actually gigging with old Marshalls back in the day, most of them had fans added (in addition to a plethora of other mods).

now seems like the time to pick up old superleads as the prices have come down some. I was thinking of picking up an early 73 the other day for 1300
