I picked up a used Ibanez RG7321 a week or so back. It has "upgraded" pickups, a Dimarzio Liquifire in the neck and a D-Activator in the bridge.
I don't dislike the neck pickup, but the D-Activator just isn't doing it for me. It's not tight enough for me, and the feedback is absolutely absurd (muting strings fully with both hands and an ISP decimator running and it still screams) at high volumes.
Granted I am comparing it to the BKP Miracle Man in my Explorer.
Are my expectations too high for this basswood RG? Or if I threw in a set of BKP's (or something else?) could I tighten it up to where I want it to be?
The only reason I hestitate is because of the low value of the guitar to start with. With BKP's I'd have as much money in pickups as I did the guitar. But I do like the feel of the guitar, just not the low-end dirty tone from the bridge pup... so if more expensive pickups would solve the problems I'm fine with keeping it.
