I play a Dave Mustaine Axxion ESP Ltd all Mahagony neck and body with rosewood fretboard w/ the DiMarzio X2N in the bridge which is great for rhythm. I am sick and tired of the SD Jazz in the neck and looking to replace it with either the DiMarzio Super 2 Neck or the D-Activator Neck. The reason for replacing it is b/c I need a better metal lead neck p/u that is bright with a good midrange slice being that my guitar is dark soundig already due to the Mahogany/Rosewood combo.

How are the DiMarzio Super 2 Neck and the D-Activator Neck in darker sounding guitars such as mine.

I play old school thrash, 80's, shred, power, death metal etc. I use the Roland Mirco Cube on Classic Model b/c I love that Marshall mid range focus. I will be receving a old Laney AOR 50 watt from my Uncle soon and wondering how those bright neck p/u will react with the Laney which is kinda bright already. Just for reference on what my tone preferences are- my dream amp is a Fortin Bones, a Splawn Quick Rod, or a Cameron amp.

Sorry or being so long winded.

Thanks

DiMarzio Liquifier. I use one and it's a great lead pickup for the neck. Very fluid and articulate. not muddy at all...

Or you could go active with a pair of the Duncan Blackouts. Honestly, for hard rock and metal I've completely stopped playing passive pickups any more. The Blackouts seem to be brighter and maybe more articulate than my EMGs.

Both are good suggestions. But rewiring for actives suck.

If your willing to spend alot, check out BKP Cold Sweat

No arguement there. I've been curious about the BKPs for a while myself.

Hate to be a jerk, but any opinions on the Evolution Neck, Super 2 Neck, D Activator Neck?

Thanks

i love the evo neck...it's hot, but really clear. i'm slowly leaning towards grabbing a few more for my les pauls.

Personally i do not recommend the Evolutions. They came off sounding thin and lifeless with no balls in comparison to an X2N. Just not the same category.

I have an X2N/D-act combo. They match output wise but the mid hump of the X2N is missing and it is starting to grow on me. They compliment each other great when split though.

I recommend checking out a Norton bridge in the neck position. I am going to a Norton bridge in the neck myself. Also check out the dominion neck. Attitude of a liquidfire but with a more neutral tone that is not set back so to speak.

i've been meaning to try the norton bridge in the neck position...i think i've seen u post something about that b4.

Thanks for the opinion on the DiMarzio D-Activator Neck, any opinons on the Super 2 Neck in a Mahogany/Mahogany/Rosewood guitar?

Thanks

Bump. Sorry if they are not allowed. I need opinions on the DiMarzio Super 2 Neck in a all Mahogony guitar w/rosewood fretboard.

Thanks

Hey, how 'bout them Bareknuckles eh??

Since no one's piped in on the Super 2, I'll say what I know. I play Mahogany bodied, rosewood fretboard Ibanez K7s. I use the Dimarzio New 7 N2 in the neck, which Dimarzio has said is the 7 string equivalent of the Super 2. Works perfect for me in combination with the Blaze Custom 7 in the Bridge. The New 7 Bridge pickup, which Dimarzio has said is the equivalent of the super distortion, was a little thin on the low end, and in comparison, the New 7 neck sounded a little too fat. The Blaze Custom sounds sort of like the Super Distortion with more low mids to me, and seems to be in the ballpark output-wise so it balances well with the new 7 neck. I've tried Deactivators. Deactivators are ok but sound like an imitation of the EMGs I was trying to replace but grainier and less 3d. don't know if any of this helps.

I've got a Super 2 in the neck, but it is in a Basswood RG. I will say, that is fairly bright and hot but it should match up well with an X2N.
