Ibanez gutars love a tone zone bridge air norton neck

This!

It seems like Ibanez and the DiMarzio TZ/AN pair have a symbiotic relationship. That's the first pair of pickups I would target for an RG.

Air Norton for neck and Norton for bridge....you can than me later.

New BKP are out of the question!! Went to the web site, would cost me close to $400 CAN for 2 pups!

I have a tone zone in my bridge and it sounds awesome with my ibby and mark V. i have always wanted to try an evolution pup form dimarzio as well.

The other guitarist in my band raves about the tone zone... In a basswood body.

Did he said that?

In mahogany: Duncan '59 in bridge and Alnico 2 neck (as in my Godin Summit). As the guitar is a cheap, I'd get some GFS cheap PUs that mimmicks those 2 ones.

Please visit www.guitarfetish.com and look at the GFS pickups. Brand new, killer pickups, at used pickup prices. I personally own 2 humbuckers that i installed on a shecter I picked up on a partial trade (kinda like your situation; mediocre guitar but wanted some hotter pickups). I installed a power rails in the bridge and WOW! 15.5k output! Runs with any active p-up set up that I have run across. best part: it was $35 + shipping.... I also picked up a VEH neck position (PAF style) humbucker. That thing is also very good sounding, but not as hot as the power rails. That one was also just over $30 + shipping. seriously...check em out especially for a cost effective guitar that just needs that little boost!

The Duncan JB sounds okay in Les Paul type guitars, but sounds way too harsh in ibanez guitars IMO. Ibanez guitars LOVE dimarzio pickups. I like the Steve's Special and the Tone Zone.

There he is, the other guitarist in my band!!!!

What's up bro?!

Went to the guitar fetish web site, looks promising... And very cheap!!

Let me know if you order any, I may asked you to put one in the order for me!!! :)

Duncan TB-11 in the bridge and a Dimarzio PAF Pro in the neck.

On a budget for a budget instrument, tone rider or gfs pickups.

Well, I dropped in a Dimarzio X2N and so far, to me it's a great match, superb match even. Very precise, in your face pup. It changed the whole guitar in a war machine, very high output pickup, nothing to do with EMGs.

Now I think I might go on the hunt for a neck pup to compliment the X2N - that or I leave the Ibby like this, no tone control, one volume and one pup and try to find someone who will built me a custom pickguard to cover the extra holes.

That $200 sounds pretty massive right now, I'm kinda stoked.

EVO will be dropped in the neck position.

That guitar is gonna slay in a bad way!!

Good choice on the Evo in the neck. Got 2 guitars with it in that position and not a bad PU. Good with "gain" also!

+ a big 1 on the Evo. I have an Evo neck in my 1420F Prestige RG, absolutely killer pickup there. Tried to like the Tone Zone in the bridge of that guitar but I just don't, too bland, no real clarity or richness IMO...dunno, somethings missing. And I'm not a TZ hater, I LOVE the one in my other Nez, course that is a brighter guitar (Alder w/AA maple top) and is not as neutral as basswood, so the TZ is a perfect match for it. Haven't tried a JB in basswood yet, never bothered as I've read where others saved me the trouble, lol (seen many dudes over the years state the JB sounds like ass in basswood). The quest continues here as well....

Well, with the Evo installed, I got a totally different axe now, it became a beast not easy to tame. The X2N is one hot motherfucking pup and the Evo in that mahogany Ibby is just fantastic, it's a bit bright so I wouldn't use that pup anywhere but with mahogany. Of course to each it's own, but to me I found a close to perfect match. That Ibby is gonna see a lot of action!
