I've narrowed down my choices to either a set of Afwayus or Godwoods. I'm sure either would fit the bill for what I want so I was hoping to get some advice from those who have played both to help me decide.

I play stuff that ranges from Tool, to Mastodon, to Fear Factory. So it's on the heavy side, but not Ceramic Warpig heavy 24/7 :D . I want something more on the organic side that is open (enough compression so you don't have to fight it though) and articulate, but still tight, growly, & punchy. Also something that cleans up & splits well is a plus. They will be going into a killer Hamer Korina Vector. Acoustically the guitar leans towards the bright side and is articulate with a bell like quality to the tone.

So which should I get and why?

Well one of my Les Pauls have a Godwood set in it and I have it tuned down to Drop C (11-56 string gauge) for Godsmack, System of a Down, Drowning Pool, etc. and it kicks ass! Especially plugged into the Modena. I can't say anything about the Afwayu, sorry but the Godwood is amazing!

I've got WCR Darkbursts and they are simply amazing pickups... probably not much help but that's my 2c!

Love the Godwood! Its also great more mid gain/blues with the volume rolled back.

the godwood will give you a more standard paf sound great for classic tones, but prob not what you are looking for.

The Afwayu's are great pickups but the Godwood/Darkburst is the best I've ever heard!

Bright guitar, heavy riffage=Afwayu    I freaking love mine after I put it in the right guitar

The Afwayu and Godwood were the last 2 pups I had in my LP before I sold it. It was a no brainer for me.........the Godwood simply stomped on the Afwayu for all out tone. The Godwood is really fat (but still articulate) and has plenty of attitude for metal. Saying that it is only a blues/mid gain pup is flat out wrong. The newer Godwoods are hotter than you might think (they are not simply PAF'ish like the original version). On the other hand, I was really disappointed with the Afwayu and quickly sold it.

I am not a big believer in boutique pedals, speakers, pups, etc. I think alot of them are overhyped. However, the WCR pups are really incredible. I LOVE the IronMan as well. I don't think you will be disappointed with the Godwood.

Yeah, the Godwoods are nice...They were worth it to me. I ultimately prefer the 2nd Degree Blackbelts because they aren't quite as vintage sounding and a bit more open sounding...but, I'd be happy with either in a LP.

Thanks for the input fellas! . The pole is split 50/50   .

In the pickup shootout clips, I overall prefer the Godwood so I'm leaning that way. The Afwayu sounds like it could be a tad bassy for my tastes, but it's also going in a guitar with a little less meat than a LP so that might not be a bad thing. I'll probably just have to go with what I'm feeling like on that given day  :D

After just getting a set of Afwayu's, and loving the, *MY* reccomendation would be to NOT put the Afwayu's in any sort of Les Paul ish guitar.

The Afwayu's have a ton of bass and lower mids, and are conservative on the top end. In other words, they're PERFECT to balance out an acoustically plinky/bright stratty guitar.

In a LP or something fat sounding, it might be overkill.

That was the gist I got from the Pickup Shootout. Let us know if you try it in a Strat or the like.

That's precisely what I got it in now.

A really bright, korina superstrat with an ebony fretboard. Acoustically, of course, it's still thin. But plugged in, it just sounds SUPER fat. The Afwayu's worked wonders on this guitar.
