Hey guys.

I picked up a PRS CU24 awhile back for my Gigging guitar. I might sell it, but until I do, I thought it would be fun to swap out some pickups. It currently has EMG 85s in it.

My tone is kind of modern rock/progressive rock-ish/metal-ish.

Bands like Isis, Tool, Chevelle, Red Sparowes, Pelican.

So, what do you guys think? It will be run through an SLO or a Dual Rec.

Opinions? Comments? New ideas? :D

If you want to thicken it up a bit, you could always try an Anderson H3+ or H2+. I don't like the Duncan JB in any PRS. They just don't mate too well with a 25" scale length in my opinion. The X2N will probably be extremely harsh with the SLO and Recto. I ran an X2N into a Triple Rectifier back in the day, and it was overkill.

The main thing I don't like about PRS guitars is the stiffness the scale imparts, so I've always tried to thicken them up with something that is exaggerated and smooth in order to improve the feel of the guitar.

I replaced a nailbomb in a lp custom with an afwayu and then the afwayu with a cold sweat
and now the cold sweat with an aftermath that's going to be replaced with a holy diver and then a black dog

my band is Toolish too

the nailbomb was too aggressive and not middy enough, the afwayu was way too dark and bass heavy, the cold sweat and aftermath were too bright/spikey in the higher strings on "cleans" (I never use actual clean channels, so clean comes from soft picking, guitar pots, unboosting)
but my 73 les paul is quite dark and dense sounding
not much like the prs mccarties I had
the riff raff worked great in the mccarty, but I bet a holy diver would be just perfect for a custom 24

+1 on the Andersons

+2 on the Anderson pickups, though I have never tried them in any guitar other than my strat...

i'm a big Anderson fan, however since you've allready got EMGs in there, i'd suggest trying a Duncan AHB 3 before going passive.

I voted 59N.

The best rhythm tones I've ever gotten were with a 59N in the bridge of a MIJ Mahogany Iceman.

BTW, I play post-rock shit, and it would be awesome for Pelican and RS.
