Hey Folks.
I recently tried a cheap pickup and I am really surprised at how good this thing sounds for the money.
Maybe I'm easy to please, but I"ve had a lot of pickups, and that includes Duncans and EMG's and Dimarzio's etc, etc,. I've also had some really bad cheap pickups that I wasted my money on. That said, I'm really shocked at how good this one is. The bridge version of a set. (I won't say the name, but if you're interested I'll post it later, just let me know).
This pickup just says that it's high output and has a ceramic mag and it is like 16.9k Ohms. Now, I don't know enough about pickups, but wondering what would be similar in a Dimarzio or Duncan? I just installed this in a Charvel from japan and it's in the bridge. Basswood body, Maple neck with Rosewood board, and Schaller Floyd. Sounds outstanding. It replaced a Dimarzio PAF Pro which I liked, but it didn't have quite enough oomph, and was just a tad too bright in some frequency that I couldn't ever eq out of my amp, etc,.
So, I'm wondering what would be a good replacement from Duncan or Dimarzio if it's even possible to guess?
But, even more important, I have a single coil slot I need to fill in the same guitar. I noticed that this slot won't take a Dimarzio single coil with that little nudge or extra area in the middle of the pickup that has the wires that protrude from the same area. This route is straight single coil. That's the best way I can describe it, but I need something that is as loud at least, and clear for the straight clean and for the over driven sounds on the neck pup. This is a slanted pup route with the bass even more toward the bass end of guitar and treble even more toward the treble end of the guitar. I'm thinking a rail pickup would be great from Dimarzio, but I don't know which I should try?
Does Ohms matter as far as tone and or output? I'm assuming it does, but how?
Thanks so much
