Just got a 2008 PRS Custom 24, 10 Top with Solid Rosewood neck.

Not really feeling the stock HFS/VB combo after playing the Suhr with Aldrich set for so long. The Suhr was a pretty vibrant guitar and the cleans through the neck pickup were really stellar.

I'd forgotten how heavy these guitars are. This PRS feels like almost double the weight and while it sounds great, doesn't have the same chime to it as the Suhr and may just need a pickup change to bring the most out of it.
I'm looking at the BK Cold Sweat set. Anyone have any experience with these in a PRS (or solid body mahogany guitar) or can maybe recommend something else?

I love the VHII in my CU24. The stock HFS is pretty sterile, IMHO. I liked the VB ok, though.

I think i'm scared to go for lower output pups after using the Aldrich's. The Suhr was a really resonant guitar naturally whereas the PRS is thick & heavy & I figure a darker guitar in general.
I've lost some of that woody percussion the Suhr had, certainly with the stock pickups.
I wondered whether the Aldrich might be worth trying again.

It's a crazy heavy guitar. I've played a couple of solid rosewood neck Jaden Rose guitars that were heavy and this guitar is even heavier I think.

I stand by alnico ii pros in nearly every guitar I own. They cover a ton of ground from clean to mean. I find my cu24 to be a little bright and think the aph would be a great fit for it but it's all original and an 86 so I'm not touching it. I use the alnico in strats, les pauls, hollow guitars, chambered solid. Never been disappointed

EMG 81/85, had them in my CU24, have them in my Tremonti, love them in it.

Im not sure the tonal difference that rosewood neck makes but I find most PRS guitars to be on the brighter side... Therefore I lean towards warmer, tamer pups in those guitars... I have a custom custom(sh-11) in the bridge and alnico 2 pro(custom wound) in neck of my PRS.... Sounds stellar. Plenty of punch without any of the shrillness or mid honk that some of the higher outputs can give you. Just my opinion.

I had a Suhr Aldrich set put in my Johnny Hiland PRS and it sounded really good!

While the Cold Sweat is cool pickup, I wouldn't recommend it. I went through a bunch of BKPs and MCPs in my ce22 before settling on a set of the 59/09s. I absolutely love those pickups for their ability to do so many styles so well. I'm primarily interested in a great hard rock tone, but also need to be able to get great clean and blues tones and really everything in between and the 59/09 set really hits the nail on the head for me. The split sounds are righteous, too.

Thanks for all the info. BK got back to me & recommended a set of nailbombs or a set of rebel yells. Two pretty different pickups by all accounts. I might give the Aldrich set a try again.

This PRS has the rotary switch. I read up that the magnet in the neck pickup has to be reversed in order that the 2,3 & 4 positions function correctly. That makes buying on the used market more difficult. :(

I use Lundgrens M6 in my CU24.
No matter what amp or style of song, that combo delivers.
I´ve played with that guitar in both rock, pop, metal and cover bands and it´s never wrong, too much or too little.
Given the fact that you can split and combine the tone it's extremely versatile.

Just my two cents =)

Happy hunting!
