Dimarzio Blaze have almost too much harmonic content IMHO in the old UVs, and I think those are pretty much a 7-string version of the Steve Special. Reasonably hot with good note clarity. The harmonics almost overwhelm the fundamentals as the notes sustain. Tone Zone definitely won't be fizzy.

I like them. I've tried a few Duncans and one Bare Knuckle in basswood Ibanez guitars. The Duncan distortion is very cool and might also do what you want. High output. Wasn't dark, so maybe you'd hear that as clarity. I've also had the Pegasus in a basswood guitar. That was really dark and not very high output or clear. The only BKP I've had was a Holy Diver and it was just gutless. Didn't like it. Tom Anderson H-series pickups sound great in basswood. Maybe the H2+ or H3 would suit you.

Sorry, really hard to say what you'd want from your description.

Oh, and I'm assuming the Jem is basswood, but I guess some are alder. Maybe that changes things too.

My favorite pickups in RG's have been the Duncan Full Shred, the Dimarzio Tone Zone, Dimarzio Super Distortion, and the Suhr Aldrich. I've tried the 7 string versions of the BKP Miracle Man, Nailbomb, and Coldsweat in my RG7620's and while they had great presense and clarity, they fell kind of flat to me.

everybody shits on signature stuff around here but the evh wolfgang pickups are amazing, i have them in 4 of my guitars they rock

So, the Breeds are both too round and too fizzy for you?

Well. Here is what the breeds are doing.

Diezel Hagen into a Two Notes Torpedo. I have already applied a Hi Pass at 90Hz so please take that into consideration.

Here is the same amp sound settings etc, with and Arcane Tripleclone loaded Les Paul (just for reference)

It seems like the Breed is thicker and maybe stuffier in the low-mids and lows. The Tone Zone definitely wouldn't help. Someone mentioned the Tom Anderson H3, which I would also recommend trying, it's got a good balance of smoothness and clarity and is one of my favorite all-around bridge pickups.

My best guess for your guitar would be a Custom 5 (TB-14). I find the Full Shred to be a bit thin in super strats, and I'm not a fan of JBs or Distortions in general, they're too bright in the end for my tastes.

Miracle Mans sound insanely clear in basswood but they are more metal oriented and definitely don't have a TON of harmonic content. I love older PAF Pros in Jems. I had an LNG and the PAF Pros were very liquidy.

Dimarzio Transition sounds good in basswood. Kind of like a higher output PAF.

For basswood I (almost) always go ceramic, and I would say Dimarzio Super Distortion, Super 3, BKP Cold Sweat of the ones I've tried.

I used a Evo neck in the bridge of a basswood body and it was heaven. Not overkill on power but high gain tones were tight and full. Harmonics a plenty too!

Back in the Ibanez days I used a SuperD3 and a Fred,, Always liked that combination. I thought you were hell bent on everybody using Arcane, they don't make what you are looking for?

In an Ibanez, I have the best luck with Dimarzio. Just feel they match up best. The Breeds have a very rolled off top end. They didn't work for me. I went with the Norton in the bridge and Air Norton in the neck. It's a great rock tone.

If the rolled off thing is what you don't like, the Evolution should be a step in the right direction.

In my 7 string are the Duncan Blackouts. I like those a lot too.
