I have a Charvel Predator, one of the fire crackle ones that screams 80s that I'm hot rodding. I'm taking out the stock bridge pickup and putting in a Duncan Custom Custom and am looking at the neck single, bridge hum, 1 volume wiring diagram on Duncan's site and I have a question:

I know the guitar should probably have a 3 way selector switch due to its original electronics setup (unless they built it to split coils for some reason), but it has a 5 way selector switch I guess someone put in it at one time. How should I wire this in?

I don't know if I need to wire it in as using 1,3,5 on the selector switch because I don't want it to act as a kill switch when 2 or 4 are selected, but I figure wiring it in as a 5 way switch won't really have any extra effect.

A typical 5 way and a 3 way switch are essentially the same thing electrically, the 5-way just has detents to let the switch sit in those "in between" spots. So you could wire it like a 3-way, and positions 1-2 will be the same and positions 4-5 will be the same.

I have wired them up so you can have position 1 as an OFF in the past
