Great pic, Thanks.

While we are on the subject of favorite JP tones, I think The Mirror and Awake in general is my favorite although I like lots of others as well: Train of Thought , Images and Words and the solo tone on the live version of Afterlife from the Score DVD and...

at least listen to the solo @ 3:56

Not sure why you'd scoop the mids on a mesa. Ive never played the Mark iv. But the tremoverb I had was already very scooped even with EL34s.

A Tremo/Recto compared to a Mark is very different. The Marks are mid-heavy no matter how you set them. I don't like running the 750 too low because it becomes anemic AJFA tone when bottomed out, but I think it sounds great when bumped down from center a bit. Either that or I'll run the middle slider slightly above center but I'll drop the 2200 down quite a bit and it balances nicely.

Also you get more gain and overall aggression if you turn up the mid and treble dials but then it gets a little to bright sounding so you compensate for that by dropping it back down with the GEQ

Hard to tell from the pic of the mk4 but it looks like his mids and treble are dimed.

The Mark series amps are very bright!

Playing my Mark III with the EQ off and it has SO much mids/high end. More so than my Marshall.

To get that classic Mark lead tone, like Petrucci, you have to tame the mids with the EQ.

See if you can play through a Mark amp with the EQ off, its okay for clean and crunch (still very bright), and you'll see what i mean.

It's been a few years. I think I need to hit a DT show again on this tour. Just witnessing that kind of talent in person is humbling. I don't care if you like it or not.

I saw them on the Images and Words tour in Columbus at the bar (yes I said bar) where Dime was shot.

I have caught DT probably about 8 or 9 times over the years. I don't always love what they are doing but I like it enough to keep passing some of my cash over to them for CD's and ticket sales.

Two totally different beasts. The TOV is scooped by nature and the MKIII/IV/IIC+'s are VERY mid heavy by nature. The V shaped EQ just balances the mids...

Yeah I honestly have never heard anything I didn't like from them. May not love each release, I think they are pretty damned consistent.
