So had to hop on the Pink Taco that was in the Classifieds. Price was too good and my Jet City just wasn't cutting it for small tube amp satisfaction. Thought about having Dave modify it but as a friend of mine has a Friedman modded JCA 20 and it sounds fab.

Anyway, the stars aligned and I got the real deal. My question now is what OD's or boosts do y'all like with these little guys? Do they like fuzz?

If the taco is close to my smallbox 50 than the koko boost original is unbeatable in my opinion. I turn the green side off and the red to taste and it just adds the perfect mids without cutting bass. standard clean boosts don't help when you have maxed the gain and tube screamers sounds horrible with the be circuit in my opinion. For me its less about boosting the input and more about adding the mids for more aggression. Plus you get a great buffer, a super quiet pedal, and some of the best build quality in the biz.

I've never had a Koko boost, but I am a big Suhr fan, I'll have to try it.

I've used a Xotic SH boost which will add Fat booty if I want it or the larger Spark boost set with the mids on.

I think you're going to dig your new PT. I love mine.

I find that the friedman amps sound best when the gain is maxed. At least on my smallbox it does. I don't really need a boost unless i'm playing at really low volume. It is just nice to use the red side of the koko classic. I don't care for the reloaded version because even when the level is all the way off it is still boosting which does not work for my setup.

I'll have to check the Suhr stuff out. Very much looking forward to this little guy!

On my BE, you're missing a lot of great "bluesy" overdrive if the gain is maxed out. I run my gain at 9:00 for some early ZZ Top plexi tones, using my neck pickup...very nice low overdrive tones. I work my volume knobs a lot and have HBE or koko boost (red side) available for very articulate leads.

Nice! Thanks for the inout thus far. I currently have a Arc Effects Soothsayer which is a fancy-pants RAT type pedal, a Black Arts Witch Burner that is a TS-9 based pedal that gets gnarly as hell and a few Klon types. I plan to keep this set to a moderate gain level that can be rolled off for clean and then hit hard up front for the RAWK! Of course that could all change when it shows up!

Different animals but my smallbox always sounds best when the gain is maxed and i roll the volume back on the guitar or split the humbuckers.

I actually do the opposite on my BE-100. I mostly use the HBE channel with the gain around 2 o'clock. This is somewhat equal to the BE channel with the gain maxed with less floor noise however.

I use an Evolution orange Underdrive for less gain. I have it set on my ES-8 to be almost dead clean on one program because it switches the amp to the BE channel and on another channel it keeps the amp in HBE mode at it gives me a nice SRV raunch. My fuzz prefers a little grit (it's not on the board at the moment, but it sounds great on either of these two settings)

I get that the PT probably doesn't gave the amount of gain that a BE-100 has, so the Underdrive may not be a good solution.

Nice board man! Thanks for posting. I am sure the Pat has less gain than the BE but I was really surprised at how heavy it got in the short time I spent with it. I expected it to be crunchy at best as I had no experience with it or the DS.

I actually had the jet city custom 22 that I was going to see about having dave model and his schedule freed up. Talk to a forumite, and he guesstimated what the mods on the amp that he bought cost and that actually put me into used pink taco or dirty Shirley pricing. Sold the jet city and bought this guy.

Nice! I plan on a DS head at some point. I can't get that glorious, warm sound out of my head with a Strat.

I boosted the PT I had with my Green Rhino and it sounded absolutely amazing
