Even with the amp's gain on 10, it actually cleans up really well, especially with a tapped humbucker or a singlecoil. When I got mine several friends were asking if it could do modern high gain tones as well as great rock tones, so here is a quick clip I did with the PT-20 with the gain on 8 and then hit the front end of the amp with a Maxon OD808. This tone is really saturated and distorted, but even with all that dirt all I had to do to get a great clean tone was just kick off the overdrive and roll my guitar's volume back and it got really clean. The Buxom Boost would work even better than the Maxon. You could run the amp's gain even lower, slam the front end with the Buxom Boost and then have even cleaner cleans when you turn it off. But, at the same time, you can literally just plug your guitar into the amp and do it all with your volume knob. It all just depends on what kind of dirty tones you're after.

But all in all, if a tone this distorted can clean up (which is bordering on too gainy) you shouldn't have a problem.

I think as long as you can play dynamically and have a good audio taper volume pot, you should be good to go! :thumbsup:
 
I cant get a 'clean-clean' roll off on mine. It gets cleanish with a strat. Still has some bite to it though. I used it for a number of cover gigs with a country-folk kinda band (obviously the wrong amp for this but whatever) and by the end of the night once it was good and hot there wasn't much clean left.

I love my PT-20 and its all the clean I ever need for my original stuff. Rolls off for great hendrixy stuff (especially with a Uvibe)
