If you want the original hot rodded superstrat that created all the buzz you contact Chubtone and start talking Charvel custom shop. That shop has nothing to do with fender and guys in there were building shit for all the 80s shredders back in the day. Curt has been used for references when charvel books were being researched and he had one of the craziest collections around. He is close to the shop as well and has contacts there as well if there are questions or concerns. PLus it helps that he is an insane player.

My last "bucket list" guitar will be a charvel ordered through Curt.
Great idea in theory but the last time I considered placing a custom order Charvel I was given a wait time of 12-16 months and rarely are they actually done on time (and for a while at least, they frequently failed to follow the build sheet). No thanks. I love Charvels but I'll stick to what's in stock or what I can find used.
Anybody know where the Custom Shop is at now with lead times?

Charvel wait time is, right now - 14-16 months. They're trying to add some guys to help bring it down to around 8-10 months.

If you don't mind waiting just do a custom shop order ans get exactly what you want. I'd look at used Surh, Charvel, Wayne, Anderson, GMW and event G & L. I honestly wouldn't over look Fender USA either...strats are everywhere and you can find some great players out there

Thanks, but I was more after those with experience of the difference between light Alder and light Ash. Choosing the brand will come later when I know the all the features and wood selction. The pickup issue is not solved either. I'm looking for a PAFish kind of HB perhaps with a VH twist (Arcane SD?) it has to be double cream

Curt from Squidmusic has pick-up clips going through many different PAF type pups as that is what he plays. HE also I believe plays Arcane pups.

Regarding the ash vs alder I have a GMW with ash body loaded with a PAF type pup and several alder charvels loaded with SD 59s and custom PAF type pups and they differ in tones. I find the Alder to be more rounded while the ash a tad more pronounced in the upper mids.

PM Chubtone and talk to him.

Thanks Scott! Do you feel that the light Alder bodied guitars lack bottom end? What I'm looking for is a light guitar with a cool crunchy low mid that still got some ass ;-)

Yeah, the wait time is why I hesitate ordering a CS Charvel (which probably is highest on my list)

Without reading the whole thread, I have one word for you:

Suhr.

That is all.

I will not debate the wait times, they ARE there and for some it is not acceptable. Notice I said "bucket list" though, it will probably be my last guitar purchuse other than some insane deal I may stumble upon ;) I have faith in Curt that what I want I will receive, if I am asking for something that cannot be done he would state so.

You do bring up a valid point for those who cannot wait, my bucket list I am hoping I have time to fill :D

The alder will have more low end than ash IMO but to be honest I am not looking at that when I demo a guitar as I am looking for cut. I look for that Lynch slice that comes with marshalls and alder / maple bodies.

Odd to me. I find a guitar with a comfortable neck (most important) that handles low action well (good fret job), good hardware, and is well built. Brand and wood type are not at the top of my list. Pick-ups are NEVER a factor for me since they're so easy to change, but to each their own. Good luck on your quest

Call Eddie at indoor storm or soundpure..custom order an Anderson standard. It's $2000 plus and a several month wait but it's worth it..no swapping electronics or any other compromises needed.
