Took a trip up to the GC closer to Cleveland and hanging on the wall was a tobacco burst EVH and a 25th ann EBMM Axis

I have to say that the Axis absolutely smoked the EVH  ...it played better, sounded better and the top was miles better than the crappy quilt on the EVH. Then I noticed that the EVH didnt even have an entire birdseye neck...only the fretboard was birdseye  Stainless frets on the EVH were nice but just too small :aww:

I just can't see how they figure these things (EVH) are worth $3,100  I forgot to mention that the hardware on the EVH was pure crap! The nut and Floyd had pits in the chrome that looked very cheap. All in all it was a big disappointment with the EVH but a major thumbs up with the EBMM 25th anniversary Axis. Still a bit pricey ($2,400) but man did it feel freakin nice! The pickup switching they have is also very cool, tons of tones in that sucker!

So that's it! I want, but can never have...that's the biggest bummer

I have no clue why I do not own some sort of EB guitar, liked everyone I played  Great customer service as well, much better than you would get from fender.

Tell your wife you NEED that EB for your church jams to spread the word :D

Hey! I think you're on to something!!

i have a buddy who owned a custom shop wolfgang back when they were in production, and has played an EBMM evh model/axis model.

he swares by the ernie ball, saying its his dream guitar. smoked his $3,000 custom shop from peavey.

i never figured i could like that guitar, but now that everyones mentioning it i should probably get around to playing one and compare it to my old wolfy.

FWIW the hardware on the peavey's were OK but not perfect - it did the job.

thanks for the post

That anny Axis is sweet! I played the one at the GC in North Olmsted and it rocked. I wanted to pull the trigger but bought a Trad Pro instead. Almost $1,000 cheaper and it left enough cash left over to pick up a SoCal and a few modules for my MTS addiction.

Lord TK: I have been talking to Rayneman about getting back over to his place to check out my MTS sometime soon. I will keep you posted and maybe you can swing on over to our neck of the woods for libations and tone checking. I have 7 modules, 2 RM100's and a RM50 combo now. One of the RM100's was made for the Hamster himself.

Same experience here. Played one a couple of months ago, and was shocked at how nice it was

I bought a new purple Axis for $1100 from Sam Ash many moons ago. Played it for years. Sold it for $750, like a dumbass might. I miss that guitar. It's the only piece of gear I truly regret selling.

I contacted the guy I sold it to a year or two afterwards and he said it was his main guitar.

Yep! That's the one I played  Freakin' thing smoked...and sounded awesome! That GC up there is so much better than the Akron store. Nothing but Fenders and Epiphones down here

Btw...I'd love to come hang out again with you guys. Those Rm's are something I'd really like to check out! just let me know, cool?

The guitar I've owned the longest (except for a Jackson I bought when I was in high school that sat dormant for 10 years but is now alive again) has been my Axis. Its gotta be 10 or 11 years old. I have several higher end guitars, and I always turn to my Axis as my go to guitar. Its got its issues (truss needs adjusted all the time) that my guitar guy cannot figure out but its one of the best playing guitars I have ever had. I have a Wolfgang as well, but it just isn't the EB/MM.

Oddly enough, I had a Petrucci for a little while and it didn't make my nipples hard like my Axis. :dunno:

We gotta get together again. I think we all have some new shit that would be fun to check out. I have a new Bogner Twin Jet and a new Les Paul Custom Silverburst that are pretty neat and Steve's got those Randall amps now.

I love the tone of my Axis, but I'll never like the 9" radius. That has always been my main issue with it, that and the thickness of the neck. I think it's the kind of neck you either totally love, or you don't like it much at all.

I far prefer the new EVH Wolfgang neck feelwise, but was never fond of the Peavey Wolfgang neck either. The radius issue wasn't there, but the neck felt fatter than the Axis even.

I'd love to try out an anniversary Axis, they look sweet.

Hey man, I'm game! Just pick a day

thats the sickest birdseye i have ever seen man.

my wolfgang was an 01-02 special. it was my first REAL guitar, and i recently sold it this past september to put the final down payment on a new 2010 M-II that will be here in april.

FWIW i am thinking about putting an EVH pickup in the bridge, i miss that wolfgang's bridge pickup

if the EB made you sell that tone beast, i think i should definately get around to playing one.

i liked the neck on the wolfgangs, but, i will say - they are limited to what they have to offer in terms of speed due to the shape and contour of the neck, profile, and body design.

it was very comfortable to play though - much more than my ibanez and charvel could ever dream of.

after i purchased the ibanez though, the wolfgang didnt get touched much. basswood ibanez guitar vs basswood wolfgang, the ibanez was just brutal in the playability zone - much better.
