Played PRS sweet 16

This is a very cool 6V6 amp. Kind of like a hot rodded deluxe/AC15. Jangles a bit like an AC-15 when the gain is lower but really rips when you bring up the gain. Reverb is very big and rich. They say the Master is seemless but I still think it needed to be up at least to 9/10 O'Clock to get the amp going. The bass is not pre-gain like an older Fender as you get true bass response when using it. It doesn't mush out the gain. This amp won't do metal because it's softer in the lows with the gain high but for a hard rock/blues sound with great volume roll off into jangle and ringing bite, it's fantastic. It also has 4/8/16 selection on back that when using an 8 Ohm 2x12 provided some nice tone shaping choices depending on where you set the amp. This is a winner. But.......who wants to pay 1700 for it? Crap, make it in China and make it $599. I want to buy American but do they realize how much American's make!!!...Or Australians who work and live in America for that matter!!!
 
Make it it China? WTF? Maybe you should just buy a Crate or Peavey if you cannot afford the PRS amp.. Are you Australian or American? Either way maybe you should go find all of the gear that is made in China and buy all the amps you want.. But you won't do that because that gear sucks.. If you want American made or any other quality gear (made in germany or anywhere else.. Diezel, Engl, etc) then be ready to pay for it! Why did you even try the amp? You knew what it cost before you played it, right? Give me a break!!! I am so fucking tired of people like you wanting to sell our country off to cheap, child labor, communist countries.. You can go to back to school and get an education so you can make more money, then you can afford to buy American made or any other quality made products.. OR you can go find another place to live if this country sucks so bad..

Don't play amps/guitars you cannot afford and then bitch because you don't want to cough up the money to buy it.. I want a Fortin Meathead but I won't even look into it because times are tough and I cannot afford it right now. But you don't hear me or anyone else saying they should take their production to China or Korea so we can all afford it.. Make it in China? Give me a break!!

You need to lighten the fuck up as
1. I didn't know the price before I played it as it wasn't tagged and I had to ask.
2. I wasn't being all that serious about making it in China. It was just the usual poor man's lament that has been regurgitated over and over on this and any other forum. So people are assholes for gushing over the Egnater Rebel? I guess I didn't use smilies, my bad...still fuck you.
3. Plus if $1700 is what it costs to get a single channel 16 watt head (I know there's some that cost more) that's American made then yeah, I can't afford American made.
4. One of the biggest reasons these forums flourish is because people play and want gear they can't afford.
4. I lived here as long as some of you have been alive and I'm married to an awesome American girl and plan to become a citzen so take any flag waving bullshit and shove it up your ass. I wouldn't live here if I didn't love this place. I drive an American car so suck on that.

I don't care what you spend on gear. I have cheap gear that I love as much as the "expensive" gear.. I don't even care if gear is made in China, just don't go play an amp that is American made and expect to get is as cheap as you can get an amp that has been made by a child who makes 87 cents a fucking day in a foriegn country..

Check the price first next time so you won't have to make a stupid ass post and then justify it by saying the only reason these forums flourish is because it is comprised of people who cannot afford the gear.. To jump down my throat on the first post ranting about Commies and being an Alien doesn't justify any further responses. I've lived here for over 20 years, always payed taxes, never broke the law, except for the rare traffic ticket and have contributed to this nation. You are the one who made a comment about not being American. I said NOTHING about you being an Alien in my first post. I think what skoora meant by the "forums flourishing" thing is that many of the posts are from people like myself who look forward to one day owning a very high-end amplifier or guitar(though I do own somewhat high-end stuff now ;) )

Also, it's a great place to post questions and talk about our "fantasy rigs" because many of the people here already own those amps and guitars.

However I also agree that you have to pay the big bucks to get the big tones, and knowing that an amp is quality made by someone who has a passion for building makes me happier about my purchase. That said, I have several Korean made guitars that I love.

It's just a forum where we talk about our gear, guys. Let's not be so harsh :thumbsup: After all, we don't need another HC.
 
I just replied to a PM from smdb and think we're good. Things got out of hand which we both regret as I'm sure we both dig the hell out of this forum. I invite any mod to delete this thread, if smdb posts that he's OK with that.

+1. If we can't GAS about gear here, what's the point? :D

Regarding the new PRS amps... I can't speak for the Sweet 16 since I haven't played one yet, but if their "flagship" line is anything to go buy, there are probably many, many amps out there that will cop that tone and level of quality of as much if not less than what PRS wants (and a lot of them will have more versatility, too). I was seriously unimpressed with it at just about any setting when I tried one, and I messed with it for a while. Dr Z amps come to mind if you're into the single-channel, less is more thing that the PRS amps seem to be attempting. Hell, the Fender Hot Rod Deluxe with the Omega mod will probably do that tone for less.

Anyway, seems to me like they're trying to ride their name on this one. Maybe if they lopped $1k off the flagship amp and $500 off the Sweet 16, then I would consider it a fair deal. But there is so much more tube-amp competition out there that I have to wonder what PRS was thinking when they priced these things.

At the GC I tried the Sweet 16 there was also an Original Sewell, Dallas and Sierra Blue. Pretty much everything but the sweet 16 had a similar sound. Even the model which is meant to be cleaner got ripping very early on the volume with humbuckers. I couldn't discern a big difference between different power tubes either. The sweet 16 really outshone the others when the gain was 12 O'Clock and below with the Master up a bit. Had a clarity and spank that the others lacked I thought. It wants me to try the Tophat 16 Supreme? but I'm pretty sure I can't afford that one either :lol: :LOL:
 
some people seem to not like the looks of PRS's amps, but personally I think they look pretty great. I have sticker shock when I see their prices though. ouch, which then I file into the "yeah right, never gonna happen" category
