there are too many cool toys out there these days.

lots of very interesting combinations of effects in this one.

overdrives are very controllable, modulations and filters, analog type delays, reverbs are very guitaristic

....looper is clever....you can set a clean loop, and then stack effects on to the looping tone, or just leave the loop pattern clean, and set your overdub tone totally different and dirty/delayed with presets or combinations of effects blocks---the looper stays totally independant of additional lead overdub delays if you wish

and it really did seem more "transparent" than previous L6 incarnations...and it has the fx loop so you can put drives in front of your amp, and time fxs in the loop of your amp. originally i thought it would have been cool to put amp models in ths thing instead of distortion models, but this way you use your amp's real tube tone and enhance with virtual pedals for more realistic TONE.

not lexicon/eventide/tc megafx, but very fun and compact and functional.

Bought one...best thing Line 6 has done IMO. Was never a fan of the big pedals but liked they're features...just not the sounds. This thing is a whole new beast. Quiet, paramaters you can actually see being adjusted, no tone loss, 4CM works great, midi to change my amp channel, delays are great, modulations are great...even the phasers, chorus and flange seem better. More realistic. However I still will use my trusty Phase 90 with it. Wah, Phase 90, X2 and the M13...I'm good to go. Not sure that it will replace my whole Rack/GCX system as of yet but it's close and getting closer everyday.

This thing looks cool and I am wanting to try it out. But sheesh, why didnt they include a EQ?

Ive read alot good things about this unit. I just got one and it was delivered yesterday. Didnt get to play with it last night due to having family things to do like soccer practice. Looking forward to playing with it tonight.

Got to spend some time with the M13 tonight. I really really like it. It has some great sounding fx in it. Will it kill all the real deals?? Nope...... but I was even impressed by some of the drives distortions and fuzzes which I wasnt expecting. I also wasnt expecting to like it better than the G System I had but I do by a good amount. I think its worth checking out if you are into these kids of units.

Sounds cool. I bit the bullet and ordered one myself, even if I can get 90% there with an all-in-one stomp floor box, I'll be happy. I too am skeptical about the OD's but this guy seems to match his Egnater MOD50 SL & SL2 drive channels pretty well just going into a clean channel with the M13's distortions.

Yeah that sounds good to me. The drives were a big surprise. I was actually getting the M13 thinking "Oh I'll never use the drives." Now, I'll be using them for sure for some things. IMHO it'll get you there 90% on quite a few sounds in it. Some of the fx are better than others but I havent really gotten a chance to really mess with it to see if I can get the ones that werent as strong right off the bat into something more my thing. Also for those who run a W/D/W rig using it with the four cable method into my Bogner and two Power Engine 60's in a W/D/W rig was very very nice. I'll never use a loop again after doing it this way. Also the Suhr line out box I'm using kills the level out on my Bogner.

Better than the G-System!? You have my attention.

I'm ready to eat crow on this. I was so jaded with L6 lately that I swore up and down this thing was going to be horrible. I would be VERY happy to be wrong. I think GAS just hit again.

BTW...how are the overdrives? Can you get the sound of a quality boost out of it, or do the boosts sound and feel digital?

To me and how l like a unit to be set up yes the M13 is better. Sound wise Im sure that's subjective too but I think as transparent if not a bit more and the fx are just as strong. YMMV. The big plus for me is it can act like a board full of pedals like you can have two delays in any order two chorus's if you want and have it set up like you have two different actual dealy or chorus padals on a board and have on the fly control over each. On the G you could make so that you could independantly turn off several fx on the patch but you couldnt set it up like this. You'll just have to play with one to see what I mean. I just ordered one that had 30 day trial period so I could test it against my pedals. Its looking like I may just use this instead of all my pedals. I dont think its a G system killer but for ME I like the way it sounds just as much if not more and definatley like the functionality of it alot more. It was way easier to set up. I didnt have to tweak a bunch of levels to get unity gain through out the whole thing. When I unboxed it I cabled it up to be able to put the pre from my Bogner anywhere in the chain, went in to the set up on the M13 and put my pre in the middle of the chain so I can have two fx in front or two fx post. Set the send level on my Suhr line out to 5 and it sounded great. No digging through a ton of menus to get to levels and parameters. For me it was much more what I want out of a unit. Again get one so you can test it against what you are using now as YMMV.

Is it possible to run through the comp. and overdrives into the front of the amp and then used the time based effects in the loop?

Absolutely! Just run it like this:

Guitar - M13 In
M13 loop send - front of amp
FX loop of amp send - M13 loop return
M13 Out - Fx loop of amp return

Go into the setup window of the M13 and turn the knob so that the loop's position is after FX1 or FX2. If its after FX1 you'll only be able to put one effect in front but have 3 fx after your pre of your amp, if you put it after FX2 you can have two in front and 2 post, of course if your put it after FX3 you can have 3 in front with 1 post. A cool thing to mention is this will save with each scene so you can have different scenes where you can have 1,2, or 3 fx in front of the amp and the respective posts.

Just got mine last night but only had a short time to check it out. I didn't get a chance to try the four cable method and only hooked it into the loop of the quickrod. Sounded pretty decent. Have you found some effects, drives excluded sound better into the front of the amp?

I can see it replaceing my pedalboard for the most part. Especially if I get the expression pedal. All I have on there now is a boss dd3, superchorus, maxon compressor, super overdrive, budda wah, tuner. We'll see.

Hey Bart :D

How are you finding the loop on your Quickrod at lower volumes? I've heard they need to be up a bit for the loop to work at it's best (kind of like the amp itself). I never used the loop on mine, but I'm thinking of getting another. Any input?

Thanks,

Josh

Hey Josh, the amp needs to be turned up for the loop to sound it's best. The way I have been addressing that is to use an omnisonic volume box and using that after the last effect in the chain and back into the loop. Works great! I keep the amp volume at about 9:30 and turn the omnisonic up or down depending on the room.

Hey Don, sounds like a great idea but I believe the minimix is for line level effects? I think the M13 is instrument level.

I was reading up on it and I probably need to try one out to see if I can use pedals with the minimix as it states that instrument level effects may not work well with it.
