I'm very familiar with the Dimarzio Super Distortion, used it in all sorts of guitars, but I have no experience at all with the Gibson 500T.

Can someone describe it to me and how it differs from the Super Distortion? And which do you like better? I've listened to a few youtube videos of the 500T, and to my ears its more high-mids, more of the Gibson growl, maybe hotter?

It has been years since I've heard either pickup but I have played thru them. I thought the Super Distortion had more high-mids (think Boston, Ace Frehley) with that middy crunch. I remember the 500T being better for heavier stuff and more balanced but just my opinion. Like I said, it has been awhile. Hope this helps!

SD good in most any guitar, one of my faves and I have several. The 500T seems a bit hotter and more hifi sounding to my ears in my LP. My V came with a 500T in the bridge and it just didn't sound as good as the one in my LP Classic. I put an SD in the V and liked it better (in that guitar). Maybe it has to do with the construction of the guitar - the maple cap on the LP=better tone than the bare mahogany of the V? I don't know.

The 500T is hotter and has more of an in your face grind to it. While I like the SD, I prefer the 500T. I don't find the mids on the 500T to be as congested as the SD. I know a lot of people have had great success with the SD, but I just don't care for the "DiMarzio Sound."
