I found it in the accessory drawer and am hoping it's a 500T.
Are there markings that indicate the model that I'm not seeing?
Thanks!

Best way is to use a multimeter and check the kohms DC resistance. That should help the most to narrow it down.

Gibson
490r= 7-8K-
490t=8-9K
496r=9K
498t=13-14K
500t=16-17k

What do i touch with the single wire pickup. The wire red and braid black?
What setting should the meter be on?

I cannot seem to get a reading at all. User error!

First off...you'll want the Multi on the bottom of the circle setting. 200OHM.

Do that and see what your reading says.

Yeah, I had it there. I tried all of them. It's not doing anything.

Maybe the guy replaced this thing because it was dead........

It's very sensitive and keeps jumping around. Maybe there's too much solder on the wire but I keep getting a range around 16.28

that is definitely a 500T :thumbsup:

It should give a constant reading if the ground wire is held to the braid, and the lead is held on the wire you would solder to the pot.

200ohm won't give you a reading. Put it on 20k.

20 is correct for all humbucker under 20K, some buckers are actually higher at 21K like the super 3 or the manlius high output bucker.
But in this case gibson does not make any bucker over 17K so 20 is what want.

If it's jumping around you may be holding the leads with your hands adding to the resistance reading. Try just touching the tips to the wire only.

throw the meter away...solder it into a guitar. That way you will know if it goes and if you like it...nothing else matters :hys:

Tried to read the Bareknuckles I have in another guitar and they read immediately. 15.02 and 8.29.

This thing must be dead. And to the guy above. I will not spend the time to pull a Gibson Flying V apart only to have the pickup not work. I also don't want any other Gibson pickup in there than a 500T.
