Please help with Carvin FS36 footswitch.

The footswitch I have is homemade and it quit working today and I need to fix it. It doesn't have LEDs. The person who made it put regular diodes in the circuit. Are the diodes necessary to the functioning of the footswitch ?
 
No. They are there just to light up when you activate that switch. They run off the power of the amp to light up,thats it.
I have made many Carvin replacement switches for my X100B's in the past.
