Here's a couple clips I did - both are the plexi boosted with a Tubescreamer. One is the plexi dimed - didn't play too long on that clip because it was LOUD :) . The other is the Ho version Ultimate Attenuator at less than club volume and a bit more than tv volume. I could have a conversation at the volume the attenuated one was recorded at.

Sounds great dude!

I did a similar test and was amazed at the results. I had to even bump the preamp gain on my UA clip because the volume was so low. :D

With that said, I love my Ultimate Attenuator. It works so well and is definitely worth the price tag.

Crappy speakers right now but I am not hearing much difference at all, will check tonight!

Im using regular PC speakers here at work but im not hearing much of a difference in tone, so Id have to say mission accomplished

yeah, at the lower volume you don't get that speaker interaction so little extra gain is nice. I'm really digging the UA too and I've had it since January so it's a keeper for me.

Thanks, now if I can just find a master volume circuit that did the same thing, I'd be real happy!

Im not sure if that exists! I like PPIMV's but they definitely have there own vibe. Have you tried the jose master volume?

On my studio monitors, I don't hear much of a "tone" difference, but the UA clips has a more spread to it and the dimed clip is a bit more focused - I'm thinking that could be just the difference of the SM57 getting slammed by the plexi on 10.

There's a PPIMV circuit on metroamp forums that kills. I put it in my 50 watter and it sounds great!! May not get you exactly the same sound as the UA, but its damn nice, costs about 15 bucks in parts and it completely reversable.

No, I haven't tried that one yet - I'm still a little slow at changing things out. I just switched from the Metro/Larry/Rockstah master to the Rich Mod II master, I'm actually finding I like the Rich Mod II master better than the Metro/Larry/Rockstah one. I'll have to look at the Jose one for a while to see where the wires actually need to go because I'm not that smart at this stuff yet  !

You mean the Larry/Rockstah one? That one didn't work so great with my amp for some reason. I had Roy Blankenship check my wiring and everything. When I turned it down, I lost a lot of mids and low mids and it sounded really shrill. I put in the Rich Mod II and I liked it a lot better.

Man, I had 4 years of electronic schooling (2 years in high scool, 2 years of ITT Tech), I should be blazing through this stuff - we never talked about tube stuff, but still I should be able to read these schematic's better!

Yup that's the one. Can you post the info on the RichModII you tried? I would love to give it a shot and see if there is much difference.

Can you bring the amp down to whisper volumes then make it louder with the UA?

No, when using the UA with a master volume, the UA will not make the amp louder than what you have the master set for.

yeah, it's the one in the 1st picture here

Let me know how it turns out - I'm wondering if I had a bad dual 250K pot, because everybody else raves about this master and it just didn't work in my amp. I measured the pot and it seemed good

What if you liked the tone you were getting at bedroom volumes and wanted to make that louder? Many want cranked tone at lower volumes, some will want whisper volume tone at cranked volume. Any relation?

http://www.donstroud.com/

No relation to Don Stroud. If I wanted my whisper volume louder, I'd use my Hotplate set to load into a power amp - the Ho can't do that.

nice dude! i just got one ( UA) a couple of weeks ago and tried it out in my rehearsal the other day and i'm very pleased with the results so far. i only wish it had a line out like the hot plate does if i wanna do the wet/dry thing.

thanks man, I've had the UA since January and I've really liked it this whole time. I hear ya about the line out, that would be cool. I just use my Hotplate as a load when I want fx. But man, I'm actually pretty happy running my fx up front - except for delay. I don't use a lot of delay, but I think I need an analog one for in front of the amp. I'm gonna try that Carbon Copy I think.
