Good day rig-talkers,

I hope you're all doing well, I've been lurking when I can for the passed year and it has been quite some time since I've actually posted.

I've reduced my gear drastically to take care of everything else going on regarding work/school, literally been playing my acoustic, cheap Schicter electric into a tiny practice Yamaha amp.

Quite the step back from the pre 500 recto a couple vintage Paul's and an ibanez puzzle top haha, I've become a much better player because of it though and it feels great!

Atm I'm looking into an upgrade. Grabbing a pod live xt foot pedal to mess around with for a month before I move to the pod he pro or an eleven rack. I've been doing some research on both but could use some real help from the guys who really know what's up..

Have these units become too dated for current technology? I do not want to buy something that is not even compatible with newer Mac operating systems.

I am looking for a capable all in one unit with with a headphone jack that will take care of my effects needs as well as some half decent amp models. I would like it to be an alright unit to work with after going through the manual as I am a noob in this particular arena. I am also interested in it having recording capabilities.

If everything I just said makes sense to anyone and you're willing to offer up your expertise I would greatly appreciate the advice.

Thanks for reading! :)
Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!

Save up for a Kemper or Snax. In the meantime stick with the Pod XT. The HD pro and Eleven rack aren't much better than the Pod XT.

IMO, YMMV, eat cetera.

I can't comment on the POD HD Pro, but I own an Eleven Rack and a POD XT, and the Eleven Rack's amp models are worlds better than the POD XT. The Eleven Rack is very easy to dial in without having to dig through a lot of menus.

If you use better IR's, the Eleven Rack really comes to life. The drawback is that you can't load new IR's directly into the 11R. You have to do it through your DAW, or use a device like the Logidy EPSi in the 11R's FX loop.

For the price you can find a used 11R, I think there is a lot of value there, and the tones are great.

Thanks for your input jc,

I just did a quick ebay search and these are priced a lot better than I thought,

previously found one on craigslist here in Vancouver and it looks like I can get it much cheaper than I thought.

Is the 11r easy enough to navigate being a noob with electronics?

Just starting to go through the pod xt manual haha, 146 pages..

whats the manual for the 11r ring in at?

The manual is pretty deep with the 11R as well (142 pages), but as far as the controls are concerned it's laid out very much like a real amplifier, and the controls respond very similarly to the amp in which they are modeling. You could probably just read through the rig editing portion of the manual and get familiar enough to dive right in. There are lots of presets you can download from elevenrackpresets.com and lots of helpful guys over there on that forum as well.

11R is very easy to use. I can't really recommend one over the other in terms of sound necessarily, but I prefer the 11R interface for simplicity.

"Too dated" is pretty ambiguous, IMO - is a 70's Marshall "dated"? I can still get great stuff out of an OG Pod Pro - very satisfying, especially now that I run Pre >>> power amp >>> cab. I've had all the "big names", and at the end of the day, I just spent a lot of money dialing in nearly the same tone on each of them. If you find something pleasing to YOUR ears, just enjoy it. Don't chase "tone" with money. I wish I had my $$$ back... ;) I have a sound in my head that I always try to get, and it doesn't matter what processor I use to get there - it always ends up being pretty much the same.

My rig of the week - Pod Pro or 11R, ART SLA-1, Marshall 1960A. Cheap, easy to use, sounds great to me!

Before you spend any more money on anything try some irs with your POD XT. The preamp and power amp sims are pretty good on that thing, it's the cabs that suck. There are a number of free ir loaders and tons of free irs out there. I already have a Torpedo Live so I don't use any of the other ir loaders. I think LePou has a free ir loader, for example. If you need links to some irs shoot me a pm.

What kind of tones are you going for? Clean, medium gain, high gain?

Chris O- You could not have said it better in regards to the comment I made about the unit being too dated. Rock on! You're advice is greatly appreciated well put and very true. I wasn't getting what I wanted out of the vintage Paul's nor the pre 500 Grail rec, probably why I'm able to sleep fine after letting them go. The eleven rack is looking better and better however I think Hung Huy Tran's got it on the money atm, I am going to mess around with this xt pro for a month and see how she goes, I'll be putting it through the paces with a whack of Alice in chains so high gain ir's will be what I start scoping:))

Yeah man, as mentioned, try bypassing the POD's cabs and use better impulses. If you are gigging, get the EPSi BUT make sure you get the one for cabs and not reverbs. It's under $150 and you can se the same IR's from your DAW. This way, the tone at home is the tone live. I had the Eleven for a minute and it was great. Only sold it to upgrade to the Kemper.

Tvd - glad I could "help". ;) Expensive lessons are best learned on someone else's dime...

At the end of the day, just play.

Look into the new Atomic Amplifire... 10 amp models, basic effects, cab sims, and sound quality on par with axe/Kemper. All in a pedal....right now they are going through the preorder list and will be shipping to the general public soon..all for 599..

Those do sound like great units. I'm looking forward to hearing more clips of the Amplifire. One of the reasons I'm holding off on a Kemper is I want to see what the Amplifire can do.
