Bit of a long shot - but can anyone advise how to get the sound created by Poison for the song ' Look What The Cat Dragged In ' from the same titled album.
Just heard it recently and it has such a thick crunching sound that I would like to recreate.
Thanks.

I copped it on my recto.
Dead on. Not sure what CC used then.

Didn't he use Crate? Maybe Lee Jackson model? Or a Blue Doodoo? I think he may even have dabbled with Randall solid states.

Thought he always had shit tone, and playing to go along with it. Overrated..

i liked his tone on the Flesh N Blood album much better. I think someone on here told me that was a mix of 2 amps though.

Yeah I thought he was always a Crate guy....

Aquanet and lots of cocaine.

Mostly this.

Personally I never cared for his tone. Or playing. Or anything they did.

But I have a nodded crate blue voodoo if anybody wants one. Lol.

You got this part right. Along with Marshalls, and I also think Laney, and Soldano. That particular song though - not sure. I actually searched on some of Michael Wagener's stuff but couldn't find.

I hate when some people rag on some guitariats, as they are obviously more successful than I will ever likely be,

:dunno: Just sayin'

Not sure why we need to cut down other people's tone chasing. The guy only has 6 posts. Let's not scare him off

OP: There are plenty of people on this board that like CC's tone (including me) so feel free to engage.

Besides, the video was balls out awesome

It always sounded to me like he used a chorus or some kind of slight phaser. It has a smearing kind of effect, slight but can really hear it when he plays open chords. Or it could just be the double tracking.
As for gear, no clue.

CC used a Mesa JP-2C for that album. I'm 100% positive.

If someone would have told me that Poison would be touring in 2020 with all four original members, I wouldn't have believed it. Poison was gimmicky, with horrible lyrics, and bad tones occasionally, but I gotta give them props for working their asses off. There were a lot of bands wearing makeup in L.A. around that time, but they took it to a level that had never been seen before. I remember seeing their first album in the store and thinking "there is NO WAY, they are not women".

Haha, true. I guess there’s something to be said for good time rock and roll party music. It’s always fun to listen to for a change up.

And those “women” got more pussy than all of us put together

I found this on guitars101

October 1990 issue that has a CC feature, he says ,"Mike Soldano made me an amp that absolutley smokes!" He uses a Crate G-60 for top end, and a Marshall JTM 45 "which is the secret of my tone". He says "I add the Marshall and my Soldano to the Crate to get my sound."

Makes sense.

And most agree that his recorded tone was MUCH better than his live tone. And yes, I hear that chorusy, swirly, phase-y that's double tracked and effected by studio stuff (much like a lot a rest of the guitar tones from this era).

LOL, exactly!!! :D :D :D

Bret Michaels will be nailing chicks in the old folks home when he is 99 years old. And it won't be old women either. He'll be hooking up with the nurses.

I really am a old school Poison fan.
