Possibly Getting A Peavey 6505+ Head: Need 4x12 Cab Advice

Hey guys I might be getting a Peavey 6505+ head, I've never owned one before and wanted some suggestions on speakers, cabs, etc. that sound best with this head?

Right now the cabs I have are a stock Randall 320 watt g3 4x12 with the 4 Celestion Seventy80 speakers, a stock Marshall 1960A 4x12 and the oversized cab of my Mesa Tremoverb 2x12 combo that was made closed back with stock Celestion Vintage 30's, the tremoverb was converted to a head.

My friend has a 6505+ and he's got a stock Marshall 1960B cab he's using along with my Marshall cab, he let me borrow his non-ported Genz-Benz GFlex 4x12 but we're getting ready to swap back, and I think it sounds killer with the Marshall cabs, he's in a metal band as I am too in Drop B.

Just looking for some input as I've never owned a 6505+, thanks!
 
I like the 5150/6505 amps with a wide range of speakers. The Eminence Legends in Vader cabs were my favorites, but I also liked Vintage 30s and G12-75s quite a bit. A lot of folks seem to complain about the G12-75s due to a scooped tone, but with the midrange voicing on the Peaveys there shouldn't be any problem cutting in a mix. You should definitely be able to find something that works well around the 6505.
 
5150 cabinet with V30's OR splawn small blocks.

the celestion EVH speakers are great too with these heads. IMHO they sound their best through V30's though. cuts like a knife in a band mix with all of the mids :rock:
 
My 5150II sounded great through my VHT Fatbottom.
 
My friend has a Peavey XXX head, no footswitch though, that he's gonna let me borrow to try out, I'm picking it up tomorrow or Saturday, he was gonna let me borrow it and use it for band practice Sunday while he continues to borrow my Marshall Artist 3203 head until he makes up his mind what he wants to do, if he doesn't want to do a trade I just might wind up selling my Line 6 Flextone 2 Head & Floorboard or the Marshall Artist or trade plus Cash for a Peavey 6505+ head.

By the way, does anyone on here have a used Peavey XXX footswitch for sale or know anyone that does? I think he was looking for one anyway even if we don't do the trade. I heard that the JSX, 3120 and 6505+ footswitches work with the XXX, is that true? If so, that would be fine as well.
 
Emperor with the Webers...got complimented two nights in a row at venues by sound guys saying I had "the best live tone they'd heard in a while"..mind you, I play in dropped C and it's not "meedely meedely," it's straight forward hardcore.

Got the XXX from my friend last night, gonna hook it up in a little bit to my Randall G3 4x12 w/stock Celestion 70/80's and the oversized 2x12 closed back Mesa cab w/stock Celestion vintage 30's see how it sounds. Right now, I have the Mesa cab stacked on top of the Randall but I think I'm gonna put the Mesa cab on the bottom cause it doesn't have the casters, effin old bass player stole the trac-lok casters for it!, and put the Randall cab on top. Anyone happen to have 4 mesa trac-lok casters for a tremoverb combo? The high's can be soo peircing from the Mesa cab, thats why I'm moving it to the bottom of the Randall. Only thing as I mentioned before is he doesn't have the footswitch to go with it! Currently in the XXX he has 4 Ruby EL34BSTR's and in the preamp it looks like he has Electro-Harmonix 12AX7's. Also, anyone have any suggestions for settings on the XXX?
