It was all down hill from this high water mark. Probably before.

Already at this point they had to use studio cats(pun) in the studio to do his parts. How do you go from that to thinking your too great to practice?

100 million plus albums sold, 50 year career, influenced generations - yeah I'd say alot of people like Kiss.

This is such a boomery thing, popularity is not a measure of quality. Enjoyment of music is a personal experience. What one person considers "good" may not resonate with another. Sales figures are a metric of commercial success, not a definitive grade for the music itself.

I swear to jesus himself, if Kiss fans stopped saying stupid shit like this, I might not hate Kiss so much.

Just admit it. They suck. They are bad musicians. They don't even write most of their own songs. They don't play their own instruments in the studio. And that's okay, neither does Taylor Swift.

That doesn't mean they are a terrible band by definition, but it does mean they aren't in the same conversation as Led Zep, ACDC, or their "peers" in that generation of rock. They are a commercial enterprise more than music makers, and if their fans just admitted this instead of pretending they are serious musicians it would completely take the wind out of the sails of all their haters.

Listen to this bullshit. This dude is supposedly the BEST musician in this band? :hys:

He's literally as good as ME when I was fucking 12 years old

I love a lot of the music KISS put out!

But I may be biased?
I was once a neighbor of Ace' on the flat planet of Jendell. :dunno:

Love a lot of Kiss’s music. Don’t have feelings one way or the other about the members. It was Peter Criss in the late 70’s who ushered me into becoming a musician. I think Ace’s parts were done by other musicians more so because he couldn’t be bothered showing up. But he was also getting very drunk and high so even if he did show, probably would have been no good anyway. Bob Kulick did a great job of keeping it in the realm of what Ace would play.
It’s Ok to not like KISS but in the 70’s they cemented a place in rock and roll history, that can’t be taken away…..just the like the aftertaste of that disgusting gum that came with KISS cards. 😂

That's totally fair. They DID cement a place in rock and roll history.

And also, the session musicians and songwriters they hired were fantastic, 100%. Esp kulick as nd Desmond Child.

But dude watch that video of ace. He sucks, man. If he wouldn't bother showing up to a million dollar recording studio do you think he would bother practicing?

He was never a great musician, let alone on the level of Led Zeppelin or ACDC or whoever you want to say are Kiss's 'contemporaries."

They made historically relevant, classic rock albums. They made a whole shit ton of shekels. But they are barely even musicians; they've been lip syncing and playing to tracks live since the early 80s, and have barely appeared on their own recordings since the late 70s.

Non-overlapping magisteria.

Sorry dude, I can't help that alot of people including myself dig or dug the band. I personally don't give a shit who likes them or not, never have but if I made a blanket statement like JD did for say, "do people really like Rush" for instance, somebody's gonna chime in and go well yeah, they do.

So why would I admit they suck when they've brough alot of enjoyment to me through the years. Bad musicians? I disagree, they are at best meat n potatoes players and those type guys liter rock bands through the ages. And where did you get they didn't write their own songs, on the whole the majority of the stuff they've written is either all theirs or with co-writers. Nothing knew there, many bands and artist do that, especially as their careers progressed but "virtually" everything from 74' - '80, their heyday, was theirs.

Serious musicians? Other than Carr, Kulick, Singer and Vincent I would never argue anything other than what I said above, meat n potatoes players. But again where does that define success? Plenty of brilliant players haven't scratched what Kiss did in terms of success.

As for Ace, I loved early Ace but the guy regressed once fame hit. Same with Criss so back to the the OP's post, totally agree, he's terrible now and has been for decades. He's a complete embarrassment and frankly as Gene and Paul progressed with Carr, I was glad Ace left because neither he nor Criss could keep up with the times.

So like 'em, hate 'em whatever but good luck trying to convince people to say something sucks just because you don't like it.

That's my point, saying "people like them" isn't the same argument as their musicianship - those are two different things. It's not even the same thing as a final product because the "members" of kiss aren't even involved in creating it or recreating it "live."

And if they were actually "meat and potatoes" working class hero players they would ACTUALLY WRITE AND RECORD THEIR OWN SONGS, and then ACTUALLY PLAY THEM LIVE which they do not do, and haven't done since the late 70s.

You're just jealous of Gene's sick bass solos. So obvious.

The thing is, all my heroes love kiss because of the image and the aesthetic which I totally get - and they deserve maximum credit for that, as well as maximizing their income with it

it's just kiss fans always overdo it and overstate the case, and pretend they're Led Zeppelin when it's more like Milli Vanilli - which hey man, Milli Vanilli sold a shit ton of records too

"Meat and potatoes players" dude they don't even PLAY any of their own music, studio OR live, or write it even, and they haven't for 40 fuckin years lol

If you wanna say Paul's voice is pleasing for you, sure, at least it's ACTUALLY HIM SINGING for some of it

Hmm, you seem to know alot about Kiss for disliking them so much.

So other than Dick Wagner (one song), Bob Kulick (three songs) and Anton Fig (drums on Dynasty and Unmasked), who were the other players on all the "original" Kiss albums? Those guys above is all standard Kiss fan knowledge but you seem to have more intel, so who else played the parts? As a Kiss fan I'd like to know.
