It's not technically a "fly" rig but it is super portable and could technically work as one I'm sure. I take one of my two guitars (either the Suhr or the LP) a Pedaltrain Jr loaded with a tuner, Phase 90, compressor, drive, gate and delay and my H&K TubeMeister 18 combo. It's a loud 18 watts, but I can use the built in direct out to go FOH if I need...

Just got back from a week in the Bay area with this "fly rig" that I picked-up specifically for the trip.

I've never had to fly to a gig, but I see no reason my lil POD bean wouldn't do the job. It's not perfect, but it's lightweight and the audience couldn't tell the difference between a POD and 3k+ boutique anyway.

Zactly!  :D

I used to be SO proud of my Bogners/VHT/H&K amps, PRS guitars, etc that I played hundreds of gigs with. I'd have my chest all pumped-out, imagining how in-awe the audience was of my supreme gear. And I can count on one or two hands the times that someone would come-up and gush over the gear I was playing or my tone. Luckily (and more importantly), many more people came up and flattered me about my playing over the years. Honestly, I've been playing the clubs for 26+ years and most of the first half of that quarter century I was playing on sub-par gear. But I prided myself on getting the job done with my playing. And for some reason, I started visiting these damn internet gear whore boards and got confused and thought that it would somehow be fulfilling if I could blow them away with my awesome gear. And I discovered that even on the rare occasion that someone noticed what gear I was playing or my tone, it was a pretty fleeting and unfulfilling feeling. Whereas even if I had a lame gig where there was hardly anyone there and no one seemed to even care, if I felt that I played at 90% of my ability or above, that was a high that lasted and mattered.

Anyways... to each their own. I've just finally learned that as long as I'm inspired enough by my gear to play well, that's all that matters.

So so true. And all the best tones ever came out before there were all these 50,000 companies out there making amps. I'd be just fine with Mesa, Marshall and Fender. To hell with all the wannabees.

Started on one of these at age 3... still have it and I love the thing! It's starting to look like Willie Nelson's "Trigger" guitar now though haha.

Agreed.

I've paired down my rig to make it easy to transport and no one could tell the difference.

Keep rockin, Mi Amigo.

I just take a small pedalboard and a guitar.

Rented amps have been a variety. Fenders, Mesa, Marshall, Matchless, Vox...........etc.

I usually just bring a pedalboard with a few "must-have" items.

Don't have a picture but the new "fly"" rig is a BOSS BCB-60 with:

Hardwire Tuner (incoming)
MXR NOISE CLAMP
MXR Auto Q
BOSS Power Stack
A TBD delay (the DD-20 is in the main rig)
EH 44 Magnum

A possible future add-on is a Hughes & Kettner Red Box DI.

Any gig, anywhere, any time... In a carry-on.

I suppose if I had to take a fly rig somewhere and wasn't sure what the backline was going to be... I'd just grab my Plexitone and roll with that. Seriously, it sounds great straight into a solid state power amp and PA speaker, acoustic amp, Fender Twin, whatever...

Pretty sweet......but if I may Critique?
I think the ONLY thing missing....is another Power strip and POSSIBLY another Tuner. But thats iffy.

I dont have gigs to fly to but If I did, I could get by with a Digitech RP1000 and a pedal or 2 and call it a day...

Crap! You may be right. I should add a TC polytune and maybe another Boss tuner. Or maybe one tuner for each string...
