I've read a lot of conflicting information on which type of power amp is best to use with a modeler.

Some say solid state is the way to go, while other say tube is it.

Is there any consensus on this?

I know from a cost perspective solid state is much less expensive.

How about the Line 6 DT50 head. I figure that'd be the way to go if you want to amp your HD.

I looked at that one, but it would seem to be redundant...

I think of it this way:
if you are setting up your tone on the POD HD and you are happy with it, why would you use a tube power amp to color/change the tone? go SS with LOTS of headroom
if you set up your tone on the POD HD and you want to warm it up, and make it a little saggy etc, a tube power amp would be the way to go.

How about this one?

The spec on that particular unit is:

Output power: (unabridged) 150 watts at 4 Ohms (per channel), 100 watts at 8 Ohms (per channel), 60 watts at 16 Ohms
(per channel); (abridged) 300 watts at 8 Ohms (mono), 200 watts at 16 Ohms (mono)

assuming you have an 8 ohm cab, you can get 300 watts bridged...that's right about where the Line 6 HD147 and Vetta II sat..and those had plenty of power.

I thought there was some port on the back of the amp that was made to work in conjunction with the HD?

It does.

I think a Mesa 50/50 would do it. Especially like the one I'm selling in the classifieds. :)

Would a Tech 21 Power Engine fit the bill, or are you wanting a rack mountable power amp?
