I like the VHT 2100. I have a Chrome, Purple and Black one. The 2150 has more cut and definition to my ear, but the 2100 has more harmonics and warmth. Since I have been using EVMs and Soldano stuff I don't need the cut. LOL

I've heard the 2100 is the bomb...but "8" power tubes.. ack!

Do you find that there is any give with the 2150's? Or are they super stiff?

I wish they had a mono offering.

I found the VHT 2/50/2 and 2/90/2 to be pretty stiff but not the case with the 2150. It just sounds completely different than the other two. Don't let the volume scare you either. It is very controllable as mentioned. I've tried a bunch of different amps with my Fish and CAE 3+ and my two favs were 1) 2150 and 2) Mesa 2:90.

That is great news...thank you for feedback. For me, there would be nothing worse than a stiff metal-only palm mute machine :-)

I'd like a wall of warm distorted mean tone. I really like the EQ on the Bogners in general: that full spectrum of frequencies. A "beefy" tone, w/o being mushy. There's a hard balance there between "muddy" and "beefy" though.
Sometimes I find the 101's too blurry and chaotic.

What tubes are in your 2150?

KT88's in mine. 6550 are good as well. From my experience the KT88's are a little more aggressive and the 6550 are a little smoother. Just depends on what you are going for.

:-) Are these tubes super expensive compared to EL34's?

A quad of SED "C" 6550's cost me $120, compared to $90 for a quad of EL-34s

Used mine with a 2:90 back in the 90's...they sounded great together

Jerry's rigs, old and new? Except now he uses a Friedman Marsha.
I like VHT power amps but they are a little to bright for my taste,a Mesa poweramp
is a little warmer,which i prefer with a Fish.

I know that the mesa 2:90's that I have used in the past sound thin to my ears and cant even touch what the VHT's can do... that being said, the only mesa power amp that even sounded remotely good was the older 2:50's IMHO.

The 2150 isn't stiff, it is more articulate and seems to have a higher mid thing going on. I have a Mesa 2:90 as well, and it has it's own thing going on as well, but I find it a little mushy in comparison to the VHTs. Maybe needs tubes? lol

Some 2100 love, and my new Soldano SM100r (thanks to Brad  ). Now I have to figure out how to use them all.
