Hey Dave,

Do you use them?

I'm curious. What do you recommend to put between the power source and your amp to protect the gear?

Also...Some of the pedal boards have some pretty expensive gear on them as well and I do not believe that the G-Lab or Voodoo power supplies have surge protection or power conditioning. Do you place something at the jack to protect the equipment on the board?

Thanks,
Ryan

No need for anything with pedal boards. Pedal power supplies are regulated at 9 volts. There is no surges or anything. The glab is universal voltage so no worry there. As far as amps and such a plane old furman pl plus is fine. Furman regulators are nice for consistency but can change your tone a bit.

Thanks Dave.

I will have a G-system and an will be receiving soon the Randall RM100 (which you are currently working on) but haven't decided weather or not to rack the brain of the G-system. I guess in the rack I could plug both the Randall and the G-system into a Furman PL-Plus. I believe the outlets are isolated so I shouldn't get any noise from plugging both the amp and the g-system into the same strip... correct?

If I keep the G-system brain on the pedalboard what are your thoughts here? Will I need something to protect the G-Syytem?

Also... If the Furman colors your tone, are you better off just using a surge protector on the amp?

Hey Dave,

I've decided to keep my G-System brain attached to the pedal board instead of racking it. However, I want to make sure I keep it as safe as possible. Have you ever used the smaller (non racked) power conditioners like the AC-215A? How important is isolated banks (this one does not have isolated banks). Would I be better off just using a Furman power strip to plug in both the pedal board and the amp?

Can't wait to get this all put together!

Thanks,
Ryan

Sure you don't need to go crazy at all but that looks good.

Hey Dave.... I will be using the Furman AC-215A on the pedalboard only. My head will across the room (10-20 feet) and will be using a different power source. Since I will be using a seperate power source for the head, should I put a surge protector of some sort to protect the head - something that won't color the tone? Any preference?

Thanks Ayrton...

I saw that one. It's nice but man that is one expensive piece of gear. I was going to get the Furman AC-215A ($200) in conjunction with a Voodoo Labs Pedal Power 2 to place on my pedalboard in order to protect the G-System since the G is a computer and a little more sensitive and expensive than the average stompbox. I was hoping for a lesser expensive solution to protect just the head. The P1800-PF you mention is a $400 piece of gear... thats $600 on surge protection. Yikes!

I am wondering if you can run the 215A and then just run another 12 guage wire back to power the head?

Something like this... house AC > board AC in > Furman 215 > PP2+ off one jack/ board AC out off the other jack > board AC out > amp head?

Most likely but what about the G-system (which is the main reason I am putting the Furman on the Board)? The 215A has 2 jacks. One for the G-System, One for the PP2+. I guess I could run the PP2+ courtisy jack to the board AC out then to the amp head but that would be a long run of power cable back to the head.

Would something like this not work just for the head?

I don't see why not...

I am sure Dave will pop his head in here and let us know if we are out of our minds.

To be honest you can just go with a surge suppressor power strip. It has some filtering you don't really need anything for a board.

Thanks Dave. I figured the amp would be good with a decent strip but my concern was the G-System on the board. Good news if I can run both tje board and the amp off of one surge supressor strip. Saves a few dollars! :)

Good. Thanks for your help. One more quick question and If this works... all of my power problems will be solved. If I use a surge supresor power strip like the Tripp Lite Isobar 4 and run power from it to the Head and another extension coard to the board into the Voodoo Labs Pedal Power Plus. The PP+ will powere 3-4 analog pedals (phase 90, flanger, chorous and perhaps a buffer). Will I get any quality loss using the courtesy power jack on the PP+ for my G-System? If not... all of my power issues are taken care of with just the strip and the Voodoo Labs PP+.

Thanks,
Ryan
