I read somewhere that on the Renegade, you are only getting the full power of the amp with the tube mix at 12 o'clock because that is where you are getting all four power tubes. So, if you are in 65 watt mode but all the way over to say the 6L6 side, are you only getting about 33 watts? I bet that is true and it would explain some things.

Thanks!

Yeah I would think so. I know the Rebel works that way. I noticed in the rebel manual it notes if you have the tube mix all the way to one side you are only getting 20 watts instead of 30 and full power is at 12 o clock, so the renegade is probably similar.

I don't think it's that much .Indeed, with tube mix at about 12 o'clock (sweet spot),you will get the max power :65W, but i think two 6L6's together (6L6 side) will still give you around 45/50 W.

That makes sense. Sometimes I like really pristine cleans at high volumes, and the Rebel 30 couldn't do it. I upgraded to the Renegade, but I noticed that even that wasn't holding totally clean, which didn't make sense to me, until I remembered what I had read about the tube mix and power levels. I tried it at 12 o'clock the other night and that held. My old Tourmaster was great at that- but that is 100 watts without tube mixing.
