My 76 Modified Marshall JMP 100 had a replacement power transformer in it. The Output Transformer is the original Dagnall C2668. The existing PT was not of the best quality and had different voltages from the spec Dagnall T2562. I swapped out the PT for a period correct exact replica Merren T2562. All voltages are in line with what they should be. I do agree with the concensus that the power transformer does not have an affect on tone. However it does have an affect on the clarity of the tone. The amp is definitely a little more articulate. It also has an affect on the amp's feel as the original replacement put 492 on the power tube plates and the correct PT is putting 475. I also had the option of 465 taps which put about 450 on the plates. Any opinions?

The pt's bias winding finally went out in my 69 plexi. For now I have a replacement from CE Dist in it. After burning it in for a couple weeks, the amp sounds and feels the same as it always did. It's an amazing sounding amp.

Nice. I think the differences will depend on the quality and voltages that are in an amp initially. Mine was not the best qulity so I notice a difference. If you swap like for like any differences will not be audible. That 69 chugged for a long time.

Yes I'm amazed nothing happened to it till now. It's been tortured for many years.

One of these days I'll get the original rewound and put back in. I was worried it would not have the sound again. So far so good. :)

Between it and my 74 Hiwatt, life is pretty good!

Must be George. You have been set on those two amps for a long time. Haven't you had the Hiwatt for maybe four five years now, or longer? Call up Chris Merren and see if he will rewind the PT for you.
