hey all,

I have a pair of vintage Svetlana 6L6s that I had acquired from a friend, the health of the tubes i am unsure of. The friend's dad owns a vintage Fender amp and has a bunch of tubes sitting in storage, from which these Svetlanas were culled. I know my 50w Einstein (EL34 equipped) is due for a power tube replacement, with it having a serial # of 17 and never had a power tube replacement yet.

As I've only had experience changing/rolling (to i.d. a bad tube) unmatched power tubes on my Mesa Nomad 45 (EL84s) years ago without any dire consequences, I was thinking that i could bias the amp for the 6L6s and hope for the best.

Besides the tube officially keeling over, do i run the risk of ruining my amp by trying these 'mystery tubes?' I have a preamp section of which i'm super happy, so please let me know if i should roll the dice or just get a new pair of power tubes. Something tells me that if they're good, these Svetlanas might sound great in the Einstein!

thanks all!

Mister,

I would prefer a new set of tubes, because You never
know what happend to the tubes before. Bad tubes
can destroy Your amp, in some cases the screen resistors.

The 6L6SED is what I call a "hifi" tube. It´s great for
clean but somewhat brittle on the high gain settings.
On the other hand this tube is very relaible.

You know, I´m a EL34 guy
