The winged C's have more bottom and low mids from what i can tell... a little scooping in the high mids and a little more gain, They sound bigger & better to my ears!
The Winged C 6L6's are still the best 6L6's i can find
have you every tried the tung sol el34B's?

I liked the 6CA7's better, they were more clear sounding to me, especially when you went to the part going from an E to an F# around 1:00 in the video.

The SED's had more low end, which surprised me, because I thought the 6CA7 had more 6L6ish qualities.

I'll probably be in the minority though, I think most here will like the low end chunk of the El34's. :)

They both sounded great.

At first i liked the GE better! but after listening more my ears found the Winged C's a little more pleasing!

I still like the 6CA7's but both sound phenomenal. It's such a shame these amps aren't more available, I'd LOVE to have one.

I thought the Winged C clip sounded more aggressive. They both sounded great but would prefer Winged Cs.

I like the GE 6CA7's better, they sound clearer to me, the =C= almost sounds muddy and undefined in comparison. The =C= do sound more agressive.

If I have both those sets of tubes, the =C= would go in my marshall 2553 and the GE's would go in my Vox AC50.....

Greatly prefer the GE6AC7. Much clearer & defined sounding to me. I'll bet they feel more immediate when you're playing too, vs. the other ones.

Where they the same settings on both?
I think if you turned up the presence and turned down the bass on the Winged C's they would be the clear winner

outside of what has already been mention and Maybe its just me but the winged c's almost have a compression to them where the notes seem to be held back a bit after you fret them whereas the GE's attack is definitely quicker/sharper IMHO. Ether way the amp sound killer but Im thinking GE's all the way.

Boy! I think both sound great, but I like the GE's a bit better. Very, very close though. Wish I could be there in person to hear that kick ass amp!

Great test Dave!

wow! 6CA7

i figured the =C= would take the cake for Savatage? i've been of the mindset that the 6CA7 was the ticket for VH, but the =C= would beat it for most everything else.

6CA7s for me, they sound more clear to me and I am thinking at those settings they would cut better.

BTW I have not gone through that bag of tubes yet, have not forgot to look for what you asked.

I actually like the Winged C's better. They have more bottom end and hit the lower mid region in tone. The GE's have an upper mid spike, but are not harsh.

+1

I agree! I never thought I'd prefer those tubes over the Winged C...I still kinda like the compression that I think I'm hearing (is that a camera mic?).
