Does anyone know what the guitar players from the band Primal Fear use for gear, specifically their amps? I can't find out anywhere. Love their sound.

It depends on the album. Mostly Engl Savages or they will use and engl preamp & poweramp live or just use the Engl preamp with a marshall poweramp. Definity Engls though. Then for the cabs they use the V30 loaded professional series.

I'm not 100% sure but they used to use Savage 120's on the albums, and then E530 Pre's with the Marshall 9200 power amps.

I had this feeling that it was going to be a Savage. I love their tones through all the albums.

They used Engl Savages up until their last album. Live they were using e530 preamps. Now they are using Madison amps (good luck finding them now).

Black Sun is my favorite album of theirs. Killer songwriting and siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiick guitar playing.

Can anyone identify the guitar being used in the Armageddon video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AbQczCg54r8) that looks like a hybrid between a V and some sort of double-neck Ibanez Iceman? I've never seen one quite like it.

Thanks,
-Mike D.
Pretty sure it's a custom shop Ibanez. I was hoping he would use that guitar when I saw them live, but he had his Les Paul Custom instead. Those guys are probably my favorite band, saw them live in a tiny little club in LA with maybe 250 people tops. Ralph Sheepers is HUGE, must be at least 6'5".

The bridge and solo in this song at 3:00 is just badass.

Some of the new stuff for the guys that haven't kept up.

That makes sense. In addition to the horns that look a lot like the Iceman, the headstock appears to be a shape commonly used by Ibanez.
I just discovered these guys recently, so I'm slowly getting familiar with their back catalog. The only album I own so far is "Devil's Ground" ("Sacred Illusion" is the song that I heard on Pandora that made me want to hear more from this band).
What club did you see them in? (I live in LA as well.)

Thanks,
-MD

I saw them at the Key Club. My buddie's band Shadowgod opened for them.

I like Jaws of Death, Black Sun, and all the newer albums including Seven Seals, New Religion, and 16.6. Their sound has changed on some of the newer stuff for the most part, they aren't playing as fast but the music is just as heavy and almost more melodic I think.

I got turned on to these guys a few years back...killer band and great guitar tones.

I have the first 2 cd's of theirs, I need to break them out...haven't played them in a while. I do however list to Mr. Scheepers in his previous band, Gamma Ray quite frequently.

I personally think that, outside of a handful of songs, Gamma Ray sucks.
