The stock pu's on this thing (GL-256 with HSS config) plain suck, buzzing even in HB position, grounding issue, output way lower than my Suhr SSH+ guitar - so I ordered a DiMarzio HS pre-wired pickguard. I used to have an original GL-56 (the one with 3 single coils) so I am thinking the tone is gonna be pretty solid. Guitar is alder body and total weight is just under 9lbs.
Should go from looking like this - to that.

Did you check all the grounds including string ground ? Could be a cold solder joint...

hadn't bothered to as I figured the components used were probably crap anyways. I was going to swap just the pickups but it worked out cheaper to get prewired assembly with better components (knobs, switch)

Is that an ESP or LTD ? The ESPs have Duncans in 'em, so they're good quality.

this is the LTD China made with the LH-150 & LS-120 pups. if it were the USA made I'd have had it checked out. Surprisingly, other than the electronics - the guitar plays fantastic and stays in tune very well (I don't use the trem) but when doing bigger bends it stays in tune. fretwork is also pretty solid.

sometimes i think an "artist" guitar should stay close to stock...or use mfg brand components that artist uses, but on a $400 I guess it's really not important...what is important how it will sound. I hope to have the pickups in this week and hopefully a quick video

Yeah I doubt an artist would actually play a cheap knockoff (as good as it may sound and play) of his own 2K$+ signature guitar anyway. ;)

I meant, George Lynch wouldn't play the GL-256, so it doesn't matter if you use the stock pickups or not.
You might as well modify it to your liking

I played an LTD version of that a year or so ago...I though it played great. Are you putting a white pick guard and 3 singles in it ? The one in that case shot you put up looks awesome. Those Duncan single sized humbuckers sound pretty good too...

the white guard pic is for reference of what it will look like after I take the tortoise colored pickguard assembly off. the Duncan "Everything" assembly is nice but I wanted it to be more strat-sounding so I went with the HS (Yngwie's old go sig pups) Pickguard by DiMarzio

I know what you mean, and it was a great idea to swap the whole pickguard, too. If you decide to put it back to stock, just solder the whole thing back in.

And, I have a feeling that even with signature model guitars, the artists actual pickups are probably specially wound specifically for their "recipe", while their signature line of guitars ship with cookie cutter stock model pickups.

I could be wrong, but I doubt Lynch's actual Screamin Demon pickups were identical to the mass produced Screamin Demons.

Who knows, right?
Even if they were identical at first, guitar players change gear all the time; pickup companies aren't going to reconfigure production models every time a Signature artist wants to change things up.

Didn't the GL56 come with a Pearly Gates ?

Those Yngwie pickups SUCK ! I bought a set and put them in an off white maple neck ESP 400 series strat I have and wondered WTF happened to the output ! Seriously weak, I replaced with the DiMarzio virtual heavy blues...killer now.

the GL-256 is the cheap version - has ESP pickups. The I've played the Dimarzio HS before, to each his own.

update - I put the HS guard in - terrible fit, super tight against neck, and the guitar was thin sounding. lots of feedback on high gain settings. so - muaha ha ha ha ha for the fun part. the guy that did the install took neck off as again the guard didn't line up right so when he got it all together the damn action was too high when he made adjustments. so i pulled the HS pickguard and took the neck off and reset it to make sure it was good, set saddle height and it's now ready to be frankensteined. the guitar plays really good without the old HSS pickguard on so I had the idea to direct mount a humbucker in bridge, put a single coil in the neck and cut the pickguard. again this may be a bad idea - but the way it sounds...and looks now is fantastic. hope to have pups installed this weekend
