these are all bands i have never heard of - which is awkward because its about all i listen to nowdays.

can anyone vouch for any bands in the list?

alot of them taken from progpower shows before ~2008 going back to 2003, and even before. since i was never at the shows, would like to know which ones to look into :)

I've never heard of any of those bands. Evergrey might be considered prog metal, check them out.

evergrey is good stuff. i know about them for sure

some of my favorites are primal fear, thunderstone, and hibria.

theres hundreds though - but at least i am not alone in not knowing who the bands in the list are, ive never even heard of them

i was hoping someone would know which ones were the gold mines - i love checking out new material that slays.

Well I'm glad you've never heard them, I thought I was either outta touch or just getting too old to keep up :aww:

I can't say I've heard of a lot of those bands but damn, you haven't heard Manowar? I recommend checking them out just for the comedic value. I haven't listened to them in a while but I'd have to say the track "Warriors of the World" was one of the more popular ones and I always liked "Kill With Power" as well. They're more power metal and from what I've heard from a friend who's seen them live a few times, they take themselves very seriously

I have to say though Pyramaze and Symphorce are both great bands.

That whole Pyramaze album is great and has Lance King, their old singer, also of Avian. I haven't seen "Dream Evil" brought up on the forum but if you haven't of those guys, I'd highly recommend.

Fates Warning
Ayreon
Star One
Symphony X
(Dream Theater)
Threshold
Andromeda
Watchtower (very over the top technical)
Psychotic waltz
Crimson glory
Spiral Architech
Dreamscape
Pagan`s mind
Pain of Salvation

You can find a pretty good list here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_pr ... al_artists

I haven`t hear all of them, but can vouch for the ones mentioned above. They are pretty different in styles, though. Some have growly vocals, others more 80`s, and others again very quiet :)

I think I may have misunderstood the Q, but heck. If you find something you like in there, I let it be :D

ARK are really cool. Jørn Lande sang, with Tore from the Norwegian Conception played guitar. The old singer of Conception now sings in Kamelot, BTW :D

ARK:

Epica would be worth seeing live, just because of Simone`s assets :D

These are all killer bands that are in the prog metal vein:

Epica
Pagan's Mind
Blotted Science (an absolute must!)
Angra
Armageddon (Chris Amott side project, very awesome)
Arsis (prog death-ish)
Biomechanical (Empires of the Worlds is siiiiiiick!!!)
Centaurus-A (awesome, just plain awesome)
Disarmonia Mundi
Divinity (ENDITOL's band)
Fates Warning (Parallels and Perfect Symmetry are absolute classics, must have)
Hacride (French brutal prog)
Intronaut
Into Eternity (The Scattering of Ashes is killer)
Necrophagist
Neuraxis
The Faceless

Balance of Power are worth checking out. Their best 2 are Perfect Balance and Heathen Machine. Their productions are not the best, but worth checking out. I'd also checkout Pagan's Mind, Evergrey, Symphony X, Dead Air Radio, Pantomind and Mad Sword.
