Hey guys, new to the forum.

I'm looking at a used Archon head and noticed the back left transformer is leaning to the one side. I feel like it's not the first time I've seen this on an Archon, but I'm curious if anyone else has. I've email PRS as well.

It could be that the amp was sitting on its side for enough time for the weight to pull the trans in that direction, I've had some vintage Marshalls with that. Never affected functionality.

I can’t speak for the specific Archon in question since I haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen this on lots of amps over the years. The transformer legs are designed to have a little give to prevent them from snapping off from the weight. I’ve had it happen on a Splawn from being on its side, no “rough handling”. I asked Scott about it and he said it wouldn’t affect anything if it wasn’t loose or touching other components. He also said it could easily be put back in place with a bar if done carefully. Since it wasn’t affecting anything, I left it.

I guess this would all depend how bent it was. I’d use it as a bargaining chip, but if that doesn’t workout, just buy one if the many used Archons without the bent xformer legs.

Those Archon transformers are beefy, not surprised it would get bent. Great amp though.

I’ve attached a photo. Thanks for the responses so far guys. He is offering a good price on the amp.

I’m just worried it would get worse as I would be using it as my main gigging amp.

I wouldn’t worry about it if the amp functions fine. I haven’t seen it on any Archon specifically but have seen it on many amps. Even a little Orange dark terror that I picked up used.

Took a whack during shipping. Happens a lot. Look at the cheap mounts, which is common with Heyboer's and others. Easy to bend back, but, let it be someone else's problem.

Bending metal back and forth weakens it. I would just leave it.

Thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead and bought the amp.

PRS told me to bend it back if it really bothers me. It's gonna live in a road case so I'm just gonna leave it.

Seen it in splawns too since they went to classic tone transformers. Their older heyboer ones never bent

This happens when the amp has been dropped on that side. Could have been dropped during shipping, at a gig, who knows.

Good quality amps can survive this punishment.

You can just grab it with both hands and bend it back in place no problem.
