Guy claims this is a CE he refinished in Matte. Never saw a CE with a headstock overlay like that, but only owned older 90 CE’s. Is it me or does this look fake?

That overlay is usually found on Modern Eagles. Not sure where he got it from.
Also, you can email PRS and give them the serial and they can tell you details about the guitar.

yikes. That one was rode hard and put away wet. Looks like a cu24 that they put a sticker or veneer on the headstock to mimic the modern eagle design. +1 for reaching out to PRS with the serial number, they'll tell you what it started its life as and original specs. Would make a great player if you could get it cheap.

Not enough from the pics to tell if it's fake, but there's a lot of butchery going on there. I wouldn't pay much for that thing.

Looks liked he used a crayon to "reproduce" the serial number.
Headstock overlay and control plates are probably just stickers.
Older 90's CE's have their serial numbers engraved in the neck plate.
Body carve is definitely from a newer CE.
Tuner buttons probably changed
Other than that, it's real. Real shitty.

Don't they use those headstock logo on some anniversary models? The serial number looks like a sharpie.

What a turd of a guitar.

I couldn't imagine paying anything much at all for that - real or otherwise.

There are a few things on the headstock that look off.. the serial number is too big, the top cut of the headstock from these pics looks off comparing to my Cu24, the top carve doesnt look right either, it shouldnt look like it flattens out from the carve to the binding.

It's interesting to see discussions about identifying PRS guitars. When considering modifications or assessing authenticity, it's essential to approach with caution. Tools like the free intermittent fasting calculator https://wellness-app.com/calculator/fasting-calculator/ can be helpful in managing your time effectively while engaging in such projects. Remember, consulting with professionals and conducting thorough research can ensure the best outcomes.
Thanks for information!

Top carve is off but also CEs have plain maple necks and headstocks

@LisaGibson you've only made 1 post since I approved your membership on Friday; it was a "reluctant" approval so I've kept an eye on your account.

Please respond and show me you're not a 🤖. You have 3 days or you're goneski.

Too much weird here. Top carve isn't anything PRS ever did that I've seen. Cutaway looks wrong. Heasdstock veneer is from a modern eagle but it's a bolt-on and MEs were set necks. Neck looks like a mahogany-type wood, CEs are all maple. Tuners don't match the screw pattern of PRS phase II or phase III, and aren't open back like phase III which is probably what they should be for '16. There are no holes matching either pattern.

IMO counterfeit.
