So I have been looking for a "Super-Strat" for some time now, and I think I am going to go for a Suhr Modern.
My other choice would be a Vigier.

So, any of you own both a Custom 24 and a Suhr Modern? How do they compare?

I love my Custom 24, but there is something that keeps me from bring absolutely head over heels for it. Not that there is anything wrong with it, but sometimes it feels a tad delicate.
Maybe it's because I am used to my 60th an. Strat, which could single handedly take down a posse of Irish Traveller Bareknuckle Fighters.
I know, for good and bad, that I play a bit rough sometimes but I want to be able to do that.
The Custom 24 doesn't complain, but it somehow feels a bit less responsive to heavy attack, if that makes sense.
I feel my Strat rewards me for it and cheers me on.

I think players that have the right Strat know what I am trying to say.

So... Is a Suhr Modern more suited? I am specifying Modern, because I want (not need) 24 frets.
And what's the approximate delivery time on them?

Thanks for your help.

To me unless you are stepping up to a Private Stock or a limited PRS(ME/sig) the quality on the Suhr is just better. I really like the PRS guitars, but since I've had my Suhr Modern even a ME1 didn't sway my opinion. Both guitars are very nice and every person will have their opinion. I highly suggest trying both if you have the opportunity. As for me I LOVE my modern carvetop and will never go back. - SDT

This may sound odd... But what worries me most is getting an indistinct tone from the guitar.

When I pick up my Strat or LP, or even my Tele, it gives me a feeling of "OK, this is where I am at", which in turn inspires a certain mood. It invites you in.
I have never had that with high end guitars...

Although some of the Suhr Standards I have tried did have a nice spank to them.

I suppose the best thing to do is to find one and give it a good whack!

You can't compare a Suhr Modern to a Strat. The Strat will have more of the strat quak because of the pickups and phasing. With that said, if you are looking for a killer guitar in both feel, quality, and tone the Suhr will consistently deliver. It takes some time to know whether or not you can bond with a particular guitar. I know when trying out Les PAuls I can always tell the bad ones(which there are allot of), and the one that feels right. I don't think it is like that with the Suhr because of the build consistency. My Guthrie flame is very different from my other Modern but I couldn't say one was better than the other. They are very different but both excellent. If you are used to the Strat, you may want to get something closer to the Strat fingerboard radius. I know you mentioned you want a 24 fretter. I would go with the Modern over the PRS, but a good PRS can be an awesome guitar as well. I just prefer the Suhr finish over the PRS and I dislike that block PRS neck heel.

I am not looking for something to be a replacement to my Strat. Nor my PRS, as I do love it (despite the little issues).
I guess what I am asking is... When you pick it up, do you feel like "Aah, this is the tone" ie. Do you find it distinctive? Is it intoxicating?

I found that with guitars like, say, Ibanez Prestige's, they offer you great build quality, great playability, versatility, the lot... But it's somewhat lifeless. It can do anything you throw at it, except leave a smile on your face.
Just my opinion of course.

That is what I am worried about. Even with a Suhr. But with so many people loving them, there must be a good reason.
